Well! I have enough money for a 3DS. Oh, joy. The only problem is that tomorrow, the soonest day I can get it, is Black Friday.
Oops.
Well, let me tell you a little bit about Black Friday.
Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Stores are very busy, and most stores open early. They usually open 4:00 AM, or even earlier.
It is not a holiday.
The name originated in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, in the 1960's. The name was to describe the heavy and disruptive traffic on the day after Thanksgiving. Then, in 1975, it was called Black Friday for a different reason. It was called Black Friday because on Black Friday, retailers got a profit, or they were "in the black" (opposed to "in the red", or in debt).
Stores used to open at 6:00 AM. Then, some stores changed it to 5:00 AM, then kept pushing, and set it to 4:00 AM. In fact, many stores this year are trying to open at midnight.
However, this has a problem. If you open at midnight, you need employees. Employees therefore must skip sleeping and not celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. People protested, and an online petition got more than 184,000 people's signatures trying to get Target to allow employees to spend Thanksgiving with their families.
It is also a very violent day. There have been many injuries and deaths over the years, not to mention arrests. There's the well-known Wal-Mart employee that was trampled to death. There was also an incident when Wal-Mart employees opened doors. The crowds flooded the entrance, pinning the employees against merchandise stacks.
Shoppers also haven't gotten along very well... There is video of a shopper assaulting another shopper. There was also an incident where an elderly woman had to be hospitalized, because the crowd rushed into the mall to grab gift cards hanging from the ceiling.
There was also a woman at Toys-R-Us who cut in line, and threatening to shoot objecting shoppers.
Well, since I'm out of room, I'll see you next time. Thanks for reading.
