I slammed onto damp dirt and rotting leaves, my back crashing against the forest floor with a muted thud.
"Ow, what the-" The blade that sliced down two inches from my face shut me up rather quickly. I swallowed a thick lump in my throat, silently cursing everything in the world.
"If you make another move, Fallyn Knight," a smooth, confident voice drawled "I'll be forced to kill you."
"Like heck you will," I growled. I rolled quickly onto my back, jumping to my feet, shovel in hand. The gaze I met was cool and blue, like frozen glaciers.
"So you'll be makin tho complicated, then?" the owner of the gaze and eyes smirked, tossing long blonde hair over her narrow shoulder. "Fine then, but I warned you."
"And I'll return the favor by warning you," zi shot back, lips pulling up into a sneer " You're about to get your butt kicked." Her icy orbs narrowed. She swung at me, the muscles in her arms ripping with strength.
Shovel met sword with a loud clang that sent painful vibrations through my arms. I planted my feet firmly on the ground, gritting my teeth. It should have comforted me that I could see my attacker doing the same,
But it didn't.
There was something about this girl, on her hot pink t-shirt, black skinny jeans and checkered Vans, that jarred an aching memory, on hidden behind walls I had to trust were built for a reAson. I scowled, deeply.
"Who are you?" I demanded, as we pressed against each others weapons. She gave a half hearted smile? As well as a hard shove against my Ruth shovel.
" Your worst nightmare." she replied. I couldn''t help it. I suddenly released force on the shovel, dropping into a tight ball, letting her topple forward, tumbling over my tiny form.
Score one for the midget.
I rose to a standing position, smirking casually.
"Well," I began, giving her my most placating look, "My nightmares do tend to be a little clique."
"Interesting move," she quipped, rising as well "I'll have to have them force you to show me how to pull it off once I take you in."
"In your dreams, Blondie." I snorted "They gave you the full name, but not the full version. Fallyn Knight does not get captured. Ever."
Okay, so maybe I had been captured once by a rogue faerie, but I'm not taking responsibility for that. If Virgil hadn't used that stupid spear-
"First time for everything, right?" she muttered. She swung at where I WOULD have been if I hadn't jumped approximately three feet in the air. I landed on her sword, tapping the blade beneath my Converse clad feet. My attacker yanked the sword from beneath me, almost sending me onto the ground again. I whipped out the shovel, quickly snapping it out, then back in, all with a flick of the wrist. The metal smacked her across the face. Her scowl formed as she brought her blade down in a downward motion. I dove to the left, then took a swipe at the back of her knees, sending her sprawling onto her back. But suddenly, she wasn't there anymore. I got to my feet, gaze whipping around wildly. The was a snap of branches behind me. Then-
"FALLYN!"
