Please ignore the message below. I downloaded MW3 to my hard drive, and now it runs smoothly. Thanks guys.
Hello! Please help me, tech-savvy kids.
My problem is the scratching of my disks. I just got MW3, and one side has a large group of scrtches shaped like ( , and I can`t play survival, and sometimes campaign fails to load.
First off, I can`t tell if the scratches are inside or outside, and I don`t dare test it. My question is, can my Xbox360 scratch my games? It seems that way, as I take very good care of my games. My Xbox lies on its belly, if you need to know. My warranty is expired, as it`s the first generation, so it`s pretty old. If it is the console, what can I do to prevent it? Would downloading the game to my hardrive be a wise decision? What`s a good home remedy to fix a disk?
Oh, and on a side note, it seems only my Call of Duty games are affected. I`ve played Saints Row the Third for atleast 30 hours and it`s clean, not one scratch. I`ve ony spent 5 or 6 hours with MW3. Are CoD games faulty?
I have a refurbished Gen 1 Xbox console. As far as disc scratching, your problem isn't your console. It is the CoD disc. The CoD franchise is known for distributing cheaply made disc and game cases.
There are a few things that may have happened.
1. Your disc was scratched by the piece of crap case.
2. The disc type chosen by CoD is literally the cheapest ever it may have scratched while being read in your Xbox.
3. Have you moved your Xbox while the game was playing? This almost always makes scratches.
In my experience with CoD, the discs have always proven to be bad. Chances are it isn't your fault directly.
My advice is sell it and buy Battlefield 3. It is far better.
First off, disregard everything everyone else posted. "ring of death" does not refer to the disc -_- it refers to the area that lights up.
Now heres all you need to do, go to redbox, rent the game for 1 day, download it to your hard drive or cloud, and boom as long as the coding on the disc is there the game works. Having your game cleaned at gamestop can have disastrous outcomes such as the coding becoming eligible. If its a very light scratch, rubbing alchol will do the trick, but in your case its smarter to just download it. As to whom ever said "system lies on its belly their is a greater chance of scratches" is completly wrong. Its always smarter to have it width wise, because it is more stable. I have the original Xbox as well, and this exact thing happened to me. Don't go sticking knifes in the disc drive or anything, the reason it gets scratched can be dust. Take your vacumm, and very carefully suck the dust out. BAM your xbox is good :p
I turned my wii off with a disk inside and it wouldn't read my disks. I taped fabric pn a disk and jiggled it inside. It worked. It might not be the problem, but maybe you need to take it apart and tighten it. Parts can sag over time and touch the disk.
When a system lies on it's belly there's a greater chance of scratches, any pressure put on the system will also cause that pressure to push against the spinning disk. My dad owns a game store and he gets a lot of scratched up games from trade-ins, he goes to the flea market and they have a disk cleaner. It depends on how bad your scratches are I've seen games that look as they have been scraped with stones.
