Zach, confused by the sudden change of mood, was stunned. These people seemed nice enough.
"What`s your name sir?"
"Well I`m Captain Price, but you can call me Fisher. It`s a little pun we made."
The crew behind him looked anxious and a tad paranoid. The captain followed Zach`s gaze and replied,"Don`t you know? This port here is very dangerous."
The captain led Zach to the ramp that went to the dock. Zach had trouble walking from sitting around for weeks in his crate.
The group of men and one boy approached the slum`s entrance. These buildings looked very fragile, as if it were a line of dominoes and could be knocked over with a single flick of the finger.
The denizens did not look welcoming. Most hid away in their shacks, and others just glared like statues.
"We must hurry boy,"said Price."They don`t take to kindly to foreignors, especially the English. Most families were destroyed by the slave trade."
Zach could relate. His mother was sold between pimps and gangs, and he was left behind. His father? Killed as he tried to protect his family and keep them together. He was only seven.
Dwelling on past misfortunes, Zach was unaware of the ambush that was to come.
A nice shove from Price cleared Zach`s senses.
"Move! You must keep heading east, to Shoal Caverns. Go on, don`t-"
Price`s warning fell short as a crude hammer crushed his throat. The rest of his crew were all impaled, shot, or killed in a fashion like Price. The bloodshed released a pool of blood, staining the sand orange. Flies quickly veered to the scene, and the locals began harvesting organs, most likely to make some much needed cash in the black market.
Zach heeded Price`s words, but didn`t get far. What little strength he had was not enough to get away, and he stumbled on his own feet. The attackers swarmed Zach, and pulled out a sack. Zach was kidnapped, and knocked out with a nice blow to the back of the head.
To be continued. Did you enjoy the nice cameo in the story?
Great writing & spelling. Very imaginative. This boys luck is worse then those children in Series Of Unfortunate Events. You're very creative & have quite the imagination. Keep it up.
