The DoD (Department of Defense) school system has gone out of control.
Here is my story behind this.
Recently, my friend Tristan was suspended for a week over a plastic cutlery knife.
Tristan was getting off of the bus when he dropped his lunchbox. The latch on the lunchbox came off and the contents came out. Within the lunchbox was a mini bag of doritos, a ham sandwich a plastic cutlery knife, and a small jar of mayonnaise. The bus driver saw the plastic cutlery knife and brought my friend to the office. He was suspended for a week with the intention to mortaly wound someone.
First of all, a pencil could cause more damage to a being than a plastic cutlery knife.
Second; Looking at the evidence that he had a plastic knife and a jar of mayonnaise, it is quite obvious that he did not have it to harm anyone.
Lastly, a week seriously!?
My conclusion on this is that the school board needs to do some thinking on how they treat these "conflicts."
Its called "Zero Tolerance" schools (epecially base schools) have a rule that if any weapon type object if found, you will be suspened and possibley expelled. The proof that the kid had a butter knife in his bag says that the school does not provide them to students or at least they are not suppose to. The suspulsion of the child is justified even if the knife was plastic beacuse it can still be used as a lethal object.
