So, the Demo for Resident Evil Revelations is now available in the American and European eShops, which is (if I am not crazy) the first demo to come to these regions, since many demos were available in Japan already, for quite some time.

I thought it would be nice to write a blog about each major game demo that comes to my region's eShop, so here I am writing about RE:R : )

I am going to cover: Game graphics and visuals, mechanics, demo length and overall impressions. Because a demo after all is the closest experience of the game itself, that you get by paying 0 bucks.

Well Well, visuals and graphics. I have to tell you that I am very impressed by this game when talking about graphics, its very detailed and seems to have everything the MT Framework mobile engine and the 3DS can offer, the only little thing bothers me is how some details like straight lines, which are part of some walls decoration look pixelated but I guess you'll be starting to these ugly monsters instead of that kind of decoration. The game overall looks pretty good and the lightning is impressive, the models are very nice too.

The engine in RE:Revelations seems to have been improved when compared to RE:Mercenaries, they did some tweaks here and there but its looking way better, one of the most noticeable changes are how the textures remain in high-resolution no matter how far you can see in the screen.

I don't know this tool's name but its used in many games including RE:M and Mario Kart 7. This tool makes the resolution of everything in a specific distance to remain low, to save some processor power, maybe even RAM and open space to other features like a little (or a lot) of Anti-Aliasing or if the game is too heavy (which seems to be the case here) to make it run at lagless 60 FPS.

The mechanics and controls in the demo are okay. Its just like RE:Mercenaries, the camera follows your character view and you control the weapon sight with the circle pad, its pretty smooth and works. You have to hold R every time you want to shoot and thats it. You reload, change weapons and perform overall weapon related actions in the touch screen. The character also has a "secondary" weapon set, which in this case is a knife (and some others), you use secondary weapons by pressing X and choose them with the touch screen. When the touch screen is displaying the map in its right corner you can use it to look around with your thumb (without moving), its very useful to look around for hidden items and I use it a lot in RE:Mercenaries too.

The game (well the demo at least) IS scary and don't come saying "bleh, its not". I progressed the game relatively without fear and killed every enemy I found, the game feels a lot like RE:Mercenaries 3D so it was not a problem for me since I am a good mercenary, yet there were parts I was a little bit concerned about progressing because of the suspicious atmosphere and once I almost threw (I'm serious) my 3DS alway, a little bit more I'd have threw it away, I have these things you put in your wrist so it would be the first time it would actually be useful for me when I am playing ! Anyways, my top screen went down and I bumped into the 3D depth slider making it go to Off position, that and the initial impact made me lost a few seconds until I was finally ready to fight, but this one they were easy on the player, and honestly i want the full game to have more moments like that, and harder ones. Yeah I am serious...that thing scared me.

The game lasted me 22 minutes, I found every item and killed every enemy relatively fast but it was not incredibly easy, they gave me some work although I am a pro at killing in Mercenaries 3D, so i expect players new to Resident evil to try this a few times before going until the end.

Ammo is VERY scarce so use it wisely!

And about the enemies...they are weird, I don't think they look scary, just ugly but they tend to walk in such a weird way that it tends to be intimidating sometimes, when you find yourself surrounded try to not freak out and expend all your ammo. They offer some challenge because ammo is always scarce and you have to always use it wisely and they won't give you an easy time, constantly advancing and attacking.

The demo was good and it is worth its 1100 blocks of space, luckily I just bought this week a 8gb SD card, upgrading from my old 4gb!

It also has a limited amount of tries, this one comes with 30 tries, more than enough I guess.

So, my Demo view has come to an end, I hope you liked it, this is not a preview but i'd like to note that RE:Revelations will have a multiplayer mode called "ride mode" unlockable after you beat the main game, you and a friend progress trough various stages killing (if needed) enemies and completing missions, the game will also have support to streetpass, related to the Ride mode. You will receive new items, missions and even new enemies from other RE Players!
