This is kinda random but whatever...I saw myself saying what a predicate nomnitive was so this is why I'm doing this... o3o
Predicate Compliments
These comment on the linking verb(see linking verb).
Linking Verbs
These are a "state of being". They usually link the subject and predicate.
Common linking verbs are: is, was, were, be, felt, looked, sounded.
Example:
Emily is cheery today.
"Is" is your linking verb. It links "Emily" to "cheery".
Action verbs and helping verbs are comming soon.
Predicate Nomnitives
These are basicly the noun in the predicate. They replace a noun in the subject. These come after a linking verb.
Example:
Ryan was a boy and he likes it.
"Was" is the linking verb. "He" is the predicate nomnitive; it replaces "Ryan".
Here's another example for you.
They were people and the group knew it.
The linking verb is "were". "The group" is the predicate nomnitive, because it replaces "They".
Predicte Adjetives
Same thing as predicate nomnitives, but an adjetive. It describes the subject. Also comes after a linking verb.
Example:
Emily is cheery today.
You know "is" is your linking verb. "Cheery" is your predicate adjetive; it describes the subject, Emily.
Sample Sentances
Some sentances to try out! Can you find the predicate complement?
1) That was good and they know it.
2) She was named Amy.
3) He was named Jake.
4) Clara is creative in her own way.
5) Silverboots is hoping she helped you!
