This next segment continues the imagery of the scene by describing one of the homeworlds of the three primary species: Djeha'ajik, Varthan, and Öagajiq (the term used for Earthlings). Earth has not been introduced to the other species in this temporal thread, yet they have all met on many occasions. In the actual sequence of the novel, Earth has been thoroughly introduced. This chapter marks the introduction of the war between the two alien species.

The Ha’ajik security forces pass planetward through the forcefield and resume pursuit. They have trouble matching speed with this small vessel – which was obviously built with speed in mind instead of defense. The vessel turns toward the bright green planet whose appearance surprisingly pristine for a space-faring species.

Inhabitants of the Ha’ajik homeworld call themselves the Djeha’ajik, roughly meaning the “people of the lush globe.” The name refers to the literal appearance of their planet, which has been kept in pristine condition since the beginning of their civilization. The Djeha’ajik have embraced their ids, which stands contrary to the Varthans, who thrive in the ego. Every technological creation stands in harmony with their environment. Any resource used from the planet returns to the planet, including remnants of ships after battles in space.

One would believe that taking such care to preserve the planet would stifle advancement, but the Djeha’ajik have mastered harmony with their world. They have no pollution and no waste. They generate energy from sources beyond comprehension that leave no exhaust or spent matter. All technology is biologically-based, grown with nanoscale-precision. When even a simple, small device fails, the Djeha’ajik treat it as a death, and they honor the piece of technology by returning it to the ground to continue the planetary cycle. In fact, they treat their people in a like manner. The Djeha’ajik treat death as not a loss but a new beginning in the cycle. Death is the first step in rebirth.

After the war began, the Djeha’ajik remained unchanged as a society. They adapted technologically rapidly, while holding their tenets and beliefs unwaveringly. To an untrained eye that sees Ha’ajik from space, the planet would appear uninhabited. One would never know where to find the structures among the geological and biological features.
