Update to the Message System

When I signed online tonight, I noticed an incredible amount of lag relating to the message system, so I am making this an excuse to finally overhaul the messages. There will be sporadic issues over the next few days, so please bear with me. There is so need to flood the Help Desk with 10 of the same "Complaint", as they will all be deleted as duplicates. In the next couple days, I will post up a follow-up blog to ask for suggestions and to check on bugs that may have arisen during the upgrade.

Update:
Since messages seem to be working at the moment (just with wrong counts and the displaying of messages from disabled accounts), I will take this time to list new features planned:

- Finally fix forwarding
- Delete multiple messages at once
- Multiple recipients
- Image attachments (3DS only)
- Forward to your email address
- Message from your email address

I would like to build some kind of autosuggest feature for usernames, but this will probably not work all that well with the way mobile devices treat text fields, so I will have to figure out something else. I can't really list all friends for quick adding to the recipients, because some of us have too many friends for that to work quickly. If anyone has suggestions on a way to quickly set up recipient lists, let me know.

I'm shocked with the amount of disrespect your admins have been sending to the users of dsipaint. Constantly people are being called names and treated unfairly by admin. I am very disappointed by the number of admins that use there privilge beyond limit. I remain faithful hoping that you may do something to ensure better respect from admins. Thanks for reading!

I tend to think the image thing would be a problem as well. Making the images public would be an invasion of privacy, unless there was an addendum to the Privacy Policy terms. Or, if you're worried about what could be sent getting searched, the website shutdown, and people getting arrested, you could make the images non-searchable and private. Making it an admin job would just be another one of those things that would get argued and ultimately create a lot of unnecessary drama. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Forcing all images to be made public IS an invasion of privacy. Sure, it won't take long for people to abuse it, but it's that way with most things. While we're at it, why don't we just have admins go through all of your messages personally? It'd prevent a lot of things, and privacy is one of those things.

Dumb Hipster's name is very misleading -_-

I completely agree with Hipster.

Glee needs to mind his own damn business. Trying to limit the users' privacy will just make people leave this place.

It's none of our business what other people do and say in messages until someone innocent is hurt or harrassed in anyway.

But anyway, why doesn't Hull hire someone or a team to help out with the websites? The pace at which this place changes and upgrades is completely slow.

Of course, that can be highlighted near a box where the user has to mark to submit anything, just like the 3D album agreements

We all know they "sext" around, knowing people will be actually sharing images is even more disturbing because this is not a site for this, and no, if i wanted to see anything i would not type "3dspaint.com" on my browser you have no reason to question why im questioning.

We are being hypocrites here, whats the point of telling everyone they should not do this HERE and go to some other site while we all know they do it in messages? Text is one thing, but in images you are taking it to a whole new level.

On a separate train of thought, saved/favourited messages or possibly even folders, seeing as messages get wiped from time to time. Recipient lists sounds like a little too much.

It would be nice if we had a main page for our messages that displayed only 20 or 30 messages. and then a link to another page that shows all the messages you received, that would take out the need to delete each message one by one and you would still have your old messages there for consultation.

About messaging multiple users...

What if we could pick in our friend list the users we message the most, so only their names would show up in the "quick recipient" box when we choose the recipient of the message, and like that pick multiple names if needed. Or create lists of friends (before, in the friend page) and pick the wanted lists.

Yeah, just like emails! A fun way to communicate with your family and friends. I'm also excited with photo attachment. That way, we can attach and share with friends via messaging system. How nice. I'll be looking forward for this new update. Keep at it, Danny!

Or he can tell you what your login email was in your settings page or something.

But I guess for the people who forgot there passwords or made there accounts with an older siblings email or a parents email then that feature would prove useful

It would be helpful to find some way to attach message threads so then everybody won't have as many messages in there inbox page. Possibly a page similar to a facebook message page where it shows however many most recent messages with the same person in a chat like looking page. Then when you go to your inbox it could show people you messaged recently with a preview of the most recent message by one of you under it. Hopefully you consider this and I think it would be very cool. What do you guys think?

Maybe set up the recipient list by most recent sign in? This may get a majority vote but for the most part, I think this is a good way.
