Hi there. You know, there are a lot of reviews out there. However, most of them are video game reviews. So, I was thinking, "What if I made a board game review?" So I did.
Anyways, today I'm going to review Heroica. Heroica is an RPG-style LEGO board game. There are four different individual games. The first is Draida Bay, the second is Waldurk Forest, the third is Nathuz Caverns, and the fourth and last one is Fortaan Castle.
The first category I'll review is building/setup.
Building and setup aren't the same thing, for LEGO games at least. Building refers to building the pieces of the board, and that is fairly easy. You build it like anyting else LEGO. However, setup is a little bit trickier. To setup, you have to put all the pieces together, and place in items and enemies. This takes a while, especially if you have all four games. There are maps, but they can be a little confusing and hard to read. Overall, I would give building/setup a 7/10.
The next category I'll review is gameplay.
Like many RPGs, you have a team of warriors and you explore areas, collecting items and defeating enemies. Heroica is no different. You explore caves, forests, and castles. You collect items. You fight enemies. One thing I like though, is the variety. You have a variety of enemies based on where you are. For example, the forest has werewolves and spiders. The items are the same. If you're in the caverns, you can pick up torches. There are also special items, like the helmet, that give your character special powerups/abilities. The basic gameplay is pretty simple though. You roll the die both to move and to fight monsters/get past obstacles/etc. The only complaint I have is that it's short. Individual games usually last 10-20 minutes. I would give gameplay a 9/10.
Conclusion:
Overall, Heroica is a good game, but a little short. It's final grade is 8/10.
