Her name was unimportant, the feline creature focused on the task at hand. If you had asked for her name now, in the middle of her work, she would not even remember it.
All she thought about was right now, her work. Most would be horrified by the methods she used, calling her creations "monstrosities" and "abominations". She saw it as progress, slowly sewing flesh together and making it work as an entire organism. Sometimes she would catch the interns gawking at her, getting a whiff of their scent and shooing them away. They all just wanted to see their boss in action, to watch what was called a miraculous curiousity of medical science working her craft.
Her paws were covered in sterilized gloves, only allowing the claws to poke through. Her hair fell in a straight, ebony curtain around her angular face, her muzzle short and curved into a permanent frown. Sometimes she bared her teeth as she worked, revealing the sharp shark teeth grafted into her mouth as a child. Other scientists noted that her body didn't seem real, too perfectly shaped from years of surgical modifications. Her dust colored fur was cut short and kept clean.
She listened carefully to the heartbeat of her current subject, tracing an artery with a claw to get his pulse. She could feel his blood pumping so easily, smell his fear of her, even taste his blood if she wanted to.
But Maes Artag would never be able to see. Her eyes were simply removed from her face, leaving only sockets. The operation was done as a child, giving her plenty of time to adjust and have her other senses develop.
Still, the cat fur often wondered what it would be like to see again.
