Sarcasm on the comedy spectrum is infact its own spectrum. White comedy is pure nonsense which contrasts with black comedy; humour with a serious message. We also have a second spectrum. How sarcastic it is. It goes from sarcastic to simple. This blog explores how to create sarcastic white and black humour.
Black sarcasm generally involves sarcasm and serious business. So basically, pick a topic which involves something serious. For example, it might political. Then you can start!
My example is Obamacare. If you are against it and want to show why, you can start by saying how good you think it is (bear with me) and follow up with comical exaggeration. For example, "Hi, I have a great communist idea known as Obamacare!"
This is an excellent display as it is contradictory (since people don't like communism). You could go further by saying how the disadvantages are actually advantages "It's good because the poor receive free healthcare and nobody else does!"
To go further, you could bash political ideology that actually works "Democracy is stupid. Who would want to vote just so somebody could rule them?" To wrap up, you have to introduce something so ridiculous, nobody would support it "Give all your property to me!" This makes Obamacare look like a totalarian dictator type thing which shows your serious point.
White sarcasm is harder to do (since you have to be more creative) but easy to execute once you have an idea. For this, you need an idea so completely unusual that can't possibly be true. Then you prove it using 'real' life examples. For example, you could argue that angles in a square aren't 90º. You start with the statement, and think of a dodgy proof. For instance, you could (incorrectly) bisect an angle to get 50º as opposed to 45. This proves that angles actually equal 100º.
You could use this to completely mess up mathematics. Since a square is actually two right-angled triangles, a triangle's angles must add up to 200º. The formula for a shape's interior angles becomes: (n-2)x200 where n is the number of sides.
We also deduce that a rectangle must also have angles equal to 100º. Unfortunately, that's all the damage we could do since not many theories are based on the angles equalling 90º.
To summarise, black sarcasm can manipulate people to believe you and white sarcasm can destroy common knowledge.
