It was a dark, stormy night. The night sky was host to some beautiful white gems. The crescent moon gazed upon me like an eye. I lit my pipe and I watched the smoke float away into the abyss of the night sky.
The night truly was the ghost of day.
As I walked down the pavement of the street, I had a sudden peculiar feeling. Something wasn't right... I noticed a group of youths sitting on a wall but they dispersed after the alert of my presence. Eventually, I arrived at my humble abode. I fitted the key unto my lock and I immediately fell into the majestic world of dreams as I lied my head upon my bed. I was to receive a shock in the morning. For when I awoke, I opened the front door to my house. The milk was gone... Somebody had stolen it. But whom may that be?
I am detective L. Z. Elda (Elda for short). I am debonaire, suave and intelligent. No criminal could possibly escape from me. After all, every crime must of been committed by somebody.
I began my search outside. There was no conspicuous details at the crime scene but I did find a strand of thread upon my gate. Additionally, I noticed a footprint in my soil. It was a Size 8 trainer (the sole was unrecognisable). So far, the only leads I had was a shoe print and a strand of thread. I then saw James, one of my neighbours.
"G'day!" I said
"Was the milkman supposed to come this morning?"
"Yes... There is a milk thief amongst us."
"How can you tell?"
"There was an imprint of a milk carton in my soil this morning. Somebody stole it."
"I see... I'll be sure to warn the villagers of the milk thief."
Meanwhile, in a remote location...
"Mwhahaha! My milk stealing plot is a success! Now I can harvest the calcium and dominate the world!"
"Erm... Okay boss..."
"Silence Grunt!" said Zero. His voice booming throughout the hall rapidly. His fearsome reputation ensured that people obeyed his commands.
"Grunt, the only man who could possibly discover that I'm responsible for the milk theft is Detective Elda. Discreetly bring him to me..."
"Yes boss!"
Back at the ranch, I held a village meeting about the unspeakable act of crime.
"Citizens, I assure that I will catch the milk thief. Your milk will be returned to you. We cannot allow this lunatic to remain a free man -"
My speech was then interrupted by Grunt.
"Nonsense, it's obvious who the milk thief is; Elda!" remarked Grunt.
The crowd gasped at this accusation.
"Where is your alibi for this morning, Elda?"
"I don't have one..."
"Proof." said Grunt and then placed handcuffs on my hands.
The revelation had sparked controversy amongst the crowd. People were spontaneously producing trash talk and questions.
"Relax, I'm a police officer. It's my job to administer justice, not yours." said Grunt calmy.
I was then escorted to a disused factory and tied to a chair. The room was perfectly square with a single LCD screen upon the wall. I could hear the buzz of flies attracted to the thick smell of blood in this room. The LCD screen flickered to life and a voice was projected unto my ears.
"Good evening, Detective Elda. I am the Milk Thief. But please call me Zero."
"Let me out you monster!"
"Now, now, you are a guest to my lovely house! Please get used to it, I think you'll find it permanent. Hahahaha!"
