Once everything was clear, he climbed all the way to the top and flipped over the ledge.
No one was patrolling the top of the wall, making it easier for Ares. He quickly flipped the blades in his hands and ran along the wall to an open tower room above the gate. Immediately he noticed three Ionian guards sleeping inside. They heard his footsteps and woke up, scrambling to get up.
Ares ran in and threw his dagger at a guard's neck, sending him slowly back to the ground. During that time, Ares had brought his other blade across and slit the neck of one of the other guards. The last guard was persistent. Ares ducked the quick swing of the guard's sword and plunged the dagger into the guard's chest. Without warning, the guard grasped the blade and pulled at it. Ares pushed the enemy's body against the floor and held the blade in his body. With his other hand, he vigorously grasped the other dagger in the neck and pulled it out, swinging it across the enemy's neck and beheading him. The head plopped to the floor and slowly rolled a couple feet away. Ares pulled the dagger out and looked up. Along the farthest wall sat a crank and a giant wheel with cogs. He stood up, walked over to the crank, and started turning it. The gears shifted and spun in their place, causing the chains to link together and raise the gate.
The crank immediately tightened. Ares continued turning the crank until the gate was fully up. Once it was done, he shoved the adjacent lever across it and locked it in place. Metal and yelling could be heard from below as the soldiers charged into Skyros. He spun around and ran out of the tower.
"Erebos!"
A voice could be heard down along the wall.
"Yes?"
"Make it darker! We can't be seen!"
"Will do."
Ares found a rope from the wall to a roof of a building. He ran and jumped off the wall, hooking his blade on the rope and gliding down it. Erebos ran below him and moved in on the lit up targets, cutting them down.
