This is a real experience of mine with Lavender Town Syndrome or LTS for short.

I stumbled across LTS on youtube one day while listening to Pokèmon music a while back. At first I thought "Heh, cool story. But I know it's just made up garbage."

I later saw Lavender Town 'Missing Frequencies' Mystery. I, of course thought it was fake. How could they pull that off on a Gameboy? I, just for kicks, downloaded the .wav file and a spectogram program. I played the .wav file in the spectogram and was amazed at what I saw. The ghost and the Unown really were in the song! The Unown spelled out LEAVE NOW.

But then I thought, "What if they tampered with the file to get that in there?" So I downloaded a rom Pocket Monsters Green version one. I put a translation patch on and fired up my trusty VisualBoy Advance. I played up until Lavender Town, where I used the built in WAV recorder and started to rip the audio as lavender.wav.

As the music played, I started to feel nauseous, I shrugged it off as needing to eat something (I still hadn't had breakfast). I got up and got myself some cereal. I came back to the game just in time to hear the roar that supposedly makes the ghost.

I stopped recording and ate my cereal. I figured that I'd put that in the spectogram and if the ghost did show up, then I'd know it wasn't just a hoax. I close VBA and ate my cereal. But I could still hear that Lavender Town music. I just lumped it up to the music being catchy.

I played the lavender.wav in the spectogram software, and started getting nauseous again. I knew something was weird. At about the three minute mark in the song, the roar sounded, and, low and behold, the ghost was formed by the frequencies. I fast-forwarded to nine minutes, and the Ghost showed up again, and the Unown, too! They were kind of streched laterally, and the lower part was smushed, but I could still make out leave now.

My nausea got the best of me and I had to close the program because I didn't want to puke.

The song made me feel horrible and I'll probably finish Lavender Town with the volume off if I decide to finish, because I don't want to go through that again.

As for the truth about the Lavender Town suicides, I don't know. I actually sent Nintendo an e-mail asking about it, but they didn't respond. Was it because they thought it was riduculous, or was it real and they're afraid to tell? Belief or disbelief lies with you.
