Another day in the hot, hot sun.
Sunshine, ironically, despised that blasted ball of gas more than anyone else in her group. She did a quick scan of the perimeter. Counting each member.
Funky, one. Mamba, two. Heidi, three. Dodge, four. And little Stringy, five.
Everyone alive and kicking. Just how she liked it.
Despite the fact they had been following the main road for three days, they hadn't crossed a single Van, and not one Snipe.
"What time is it?" Stringy whined from their metal wagon. Attatched to the nasty old bike Dodge led.
Funky walked not to far ahead of Heidi, wearing her mask. Funky usually got hunches every so often, and she'd wear hers.
She rolled her eyes, those beautiful brown eyes.
Sunshine blinked herself out of her trance. Hefting her pack higher onto her shoulder.
Mamba walked in front of Dodge, blocking the glare of the sun for him. He wore his gas mask, like the paranoid dude he was.
"The more you complain, Stringy, the slower lunch will come." He chuckled in his singnature caramel voice, muffled by his lucky mask. Heidi flipped her ginger braids, gazing at Mamba with a small smile.
Sunshine glared at the horizon. Keeping herself as vigilant as possible despite the blazing sun. She slowed her pace, walking beside Dodge. "You made sure to pack the jerky, right?" she glanced up at Dodge. He wasn't much taller than her, though. Maybe a few inches.
Dodge grinned, "As if I wouldn't?" as he walked, he opened the backpack slung across the bike's handle bars. Pulling out a paper bag, and placing it in Sunshine's open palm.
Sunshine couldn't help but mirror Dodge's smile. Beef jerky was probably her only weakness. Second to Funky, of course.
She had her hand in the bag, gripping a the biggest hunk of jerky. When a flash of light from across the road caught her eye. Just behind a group of large rocks. She whipped her head to her group, the flash briefly shone against the side of Mamba's head.
Dodge had seen Sunshine's expression, and saw the light as well.
"Mam-!" Dodge yelled, his tone as terrified as Sunshine's look. He grabbed the collar of Mamba's shirt from behind. Yanking him back.
A flash of light, too quick for the eye. Mamba's head jerked to the side, collapsing to the dusty desert floor.
