What's Wrong With WiiU (Alliteration ^_^ )

Savii This will be a bit terse, so bear with me.


For starters, the asking price for what we're getting. The base model (in the US) is $300 for what, 8gb, while the deluxe is 32gb $350? Storage space is sooooooo cheap nowadays. And the tech jump from last gen to the WiiU isn't a chasm leap, so that isn't the reason either. No, I think the UPad is to blame, which might be why they won't be selling it standalone, at least for a while.

Another rather worrisome thing is that Nintendo has been silent about the Wii Virtual Console import system and has said that (ifI remember correctly) that VC games will not be playable on the UPad. Hopefully these change quickly, but really this is kind of bugging me a bit. We don't need game-specific emulators that we had on the Wii. Emulators per system would be fine. I believe most people would be OK with the occassional frame rate drop on some games if it meant they'd be able to quickly access games THEY ALREADY BOUGHT on the Wii. "-_-

And speaking of games, the launch lineup is giving me the 3DS vibe, to a lesser extent. The only game I'm pretty stoked for is Dragon Quest X, & I can't even remember if that's launching Day One outside Japan. :/ But really, it's REALLY stupid that Nintendo Land isn't a free pack-in game a lá Wii Sports. That stinks of an NCL decision...

But most of all, Nintendo's recent attitude & statements are troubling. They seem ignorant of why the Wii sold so well, which was for the same reason the NES did: arcade-y games & games that gamers in general wanted. For Wii, Wii Sports was a huge driving force, but the games that allowed Ninty to start printing money were Wii Play, Wii Fit (27 Million), Mario Kart Wii (32 Million sold; best-selling retail game EVER) & New Super Mario Bros Wii.

The WiiU will do well, but if Ninty doesn't shape up, it will only because Sony/MS will screw up this gen.

P.S They're going to screw up Miiverse with their stupid system of moderating posts. :-l

Comparing PCs to consoles is stupid. (I can't think of a good analogy.) PCs are always going to be better than consoles as far as progression and gaming if you have the latest stuff.[/quote]

I think it's 32GB of flash memory, aka an SSD, which would increase the price more than a standard HDD.

Agreed. A 1TB hard drive costs around $40-$50-ish, and the Deluxe WiiU BARELY has more than what the BASIC Xbox 360 had back in 2005: 20GB. <img src="/chatrooms/smilies/alien2.gif" alt="">

But you can easily plug in your 1TB drive to it for external memory. I believe that up to 4TBs of external can be added.

Agreed. A 1TB hard drive costs around $40-$50-ish, and the Deluxe WiiU BARELY has more than what the BASIC Xbox 360 had back in 2005: 20GB.

It's not a terribly huge issue, but given how relatively cheap storage is, it's quite an unnecessary one.

Nintendo Land doesn't have online multiplayer because it's not a game that would have online multiplayer. The game was made for family to play and interact with each other.

I doubt it's sold at a loss, given the tech it has is from about 2010-ish, with fairly low storage space (by today's standards).

Nintendo has said that all of your Wii downloads will be playable on the Wii U. They probably won't support Game Pad use at launch, but I'm sure they'd update everything when they get to it.

The launch titles are a lot better than the 3DS had, that's for sure. Mario U, Nintendo Land, Ninja Gaiden, ZombiU. They have at least something for just about anyone. They have shooting games, fighting games, platformers, racing games. More games have been announced for the Wii U before launch than games announced for the Vita, ever.


Mario U is yet another "New" game, the last 3 of which progressed from decent, to cash-in, to dear god THIS is what they sold us?! ZombiU looks fairly generic. I might get Ninja Gaiden. Nintendo Land looks good, but the lack of online play is dissapointing and peculiar.


I understand if you're late to recognize the Wii U's awesome. You're obviously blind or something. It's okay. I understand.


Riiiiggghhtt. It definitely can't be that there are some problems.
