I will start off with a small introduction about myself, with the help of Mr.Einstein!
Just in case you haven't heard about me, I am a member since 2009 and I was extremely active until this year (2012), due to the rapid shift of my daily life habits and dilution of free time hobbies and interests I didn't expend much time on Paint this year, but I still visit the site daily.
Unlike it might seem*, I am not a native English speaker, and I am Brazilian.
(*according to some excessively kind feedback from certain members, which I have to modestly disagree because I am not anywhere near proficiency yet )
I lived some time abroad when I was 12 to 14 (almost 15), in Morocco, and I learned French there as well as enough Spanish for simple communication (aka survival communication). You might be asking yourself, where the English comes from then?
I don't know how exactly it happened. I guess it was more a combination of factors; video games, internet, TV, non-adapted reading material and the experience of learning a new language technically by force, even if it wasn't English.
In the long therm, I ended up with a fairly good basis in English and fluency, without taking a single private English class ever, in my whole life, these are very common around here and in many non-english speaking countries.
By the half of this year, I decided I would start official studies on the language, before tackling French and Spanish, on a globalized word English is a priority.
I took a simple test (writing, oral) at the English Culture, known to be the most rigid and longest running English course in Brazil.
I didn't know what to expect since I was never professionally evaluated like that, but I ended up in a fairly good level, just so you can have an idea the courses are divided in 3 levels: Elementary, Teens, and Adults.
Elementary + teens together sum around 6 to 8 years of course, and Adults (advanced) sum 3 years divided into 2 levels: MAC (Mainstream Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency).
Both advanced levels have 3 periods of 6 months, labeled as MAC1/CPE1 and so on, I reached MAC1, and next year I'll be starting MAC2. So technically, I virtually have +800 hours of English studies. "Virtually" as in; I never had these classes, they never existed.
When I was receiving the rating, I could feel the examiner's concern about putting me in a advanced class where I could potentially fail horribly and end up stuck, calling for a downgrade in course level. But according to my latest grades I'm just there, on top of the average rating.
The course is finishing, and I'll be facing one of my (and many people's) devil by the end of it.
Our last writing text task...well, is not exactly "only" writing.
We were asked to write an essay and basically give a lecture on the chosen subject, based on what we wrote. But we are not allowed to take the paper on stage.
As is the case of almost all my classmates, most of us never gave an actual lecture, much less in English!
I'm here today to ask for you cooperation and help me pick a subject, because I like talking about many things but I'm still unsure on what I should work on.
The requirements are:
* Give preference to subjects related to Social and Economic affairs (international or national).
* Defend your opinion and elaborate a solution supported by arguments for the presented question/problems.
So I basically need a subject that gives me a lot or enough mobility and is in some way problematic, so I can defend my view and present a solution for the given problems.
I was thinking about writing something related to geopolitics, economics or something else in that field. But I still don't have an specific subject to attach myself to inside these areas, much less a problem to solve!
I am here today to sincerely ask for your help, and give me ideas of something to work on, you have my words that If I'm given an intriguing subject that I can modulate and defend a position, I will work on a good lecture that will be worth the crowd's time!
This is the first one of many more to come
Thanks for your cooperation! Your pal Gleeok is thankful :3
As the no-nonsense person I am, I suggest writing about the Invisible Menace. They're an evil species invisible to the naked eye who spend their time causing inexplicable bad things to happen. Like when I ride my bike and get into an accident or when people I meet instantly dislike me. It's the Invisible Menace at work. They're there tripping me so I fall and threatening people I've never met to act as though they hate me.
I know they exist because it's the only explanation that makes sense. Am I just inept at physical acivity? Of course not. Do I just have an unlikable personality? That's ridiculous. I'd attack anyone who'd say that just for suggesting something so ludicrous.
The Invisible Menace is real. They are pure evil and must be stopped.
