So I posted a blog recently that was about 3D Mario platformers. I didn't include Super Mario 3D Land because it doesn't involve collecting stars as the main point. But this blog will be entirely about Super Mario 3D Land. I've come up with three things about this game that are great.
1. Originality
Despite having many things in it taken from previous games (And quite a variety of them), Super Mario 3D Land has a huge amount of originality. In fact, it's almost like its own genre of Mario. It's not a 2D platformer like New Super Mario Bros. and it's not Super Mario Galaxy.
2. Sound
Just putting "Music" as the title of this section doesn't cover all the great audio of Super Mario 3D Land. At the first level, it doesn't seem amazingly great, but as you continue playing, you'll come across some great new tunes and some great remixes. Actually, the music from this game is some of the best music of any Mario game, ever. But that's just the music. The sound effects are fantastic as well. Walking over different surfaces and hearing the sound is great. The sound fits so well to whatever might be happening that causes it. This is waaaaaaaaay better played with sound on.
3(D). Graphics
Fitting number for this, hm?
The 3D effect is amazing. Actually, whether you have it on or not affects the difficulty. I played with it off for a short time recently, and it's harder to make your jumps precise because you don't see the actual depth. The camera may play a big part in this, being at the angle it is normally, but really. Also having the option to make 3D pop out or stay 'inside' the screen is nice. Things don't jump out of the screen far very often, but in certain areas it's possible to make Mario appear to pop out about two inches. Also, people might complain about things not coming out very far, but understand that to have something out a long distance, it needs to be in the middle of the screen so both angles can be shown. Besides the 3D, graphics are beautiful. In some places when I could see Mario close up, I just looked at him for a short time. Very nice visuals.
Even though this wasn't exactly a review, if you don't have this yet, you would probably enjoy it. It's available both on the eShop and in stores. HAVE FUN.
This doesn't really convince me. Originality isn't an excuse for how bad 3D land was. I hated the camera angles and it was just so boring. Music, ok mario music is awesome. Graphics, agreed awesome. But it was just so boring. I found it just too easy and repetetive. (Each level)
