Her crisom eyes watched as children, of all ages, surrounded her. Their tiny hands gentle tangling into her hair and cloak. Their laughter and smiles warming her stone cold heart. Only the innocent can love a maiden such as herself.
She crouched low so she look them in the eyes. They giggled and shushed as they sensed her shadows near by expand and surround them in a dome of darkness. All of the light dying away from the living entity.
Instead they smiled and sat in the soft fresh meadow grass and awaited in the darkness.
The maiden smiled warmly and hummed three notes before beginning-
"Small children, small children.
Gather around, I have a secret to tell to you." The voice of the maiden was like silver bells, but it also reflected her battles and wisdom. "Small children, small children, do not fear, the creatures under your bed.
For I shall protect you. So innocent and pure heart you are, your eyes sparkle with such purity.
Do not fear for I shall protect you from the creatures of the night" Her voice faded slightly and the children leaned forward. "Small children, small children, Do not fear. The creatures under your bed. They are not to fear but instead its your friend.
I am not a being of light, neither of that of dark. Your parents forbid you to visit me, because they know im a monster..." Bloody tears ran down her face and the maiden fell to her knees. How could she lure the children into her forest like that, when she could kill them at any moment?
"Im a monster..." She whispered.
A small hand cupped her cheeck and drew her face up. There before her stood the last remaining child, the others all fled. Her short black hair waving softly in the breeze. The maiden knew the child well. Many times she had come to listen to her.
"Dont cry."The childs innocent voice sang. "Your not a monster. Your you. Noone's a monster unless they make themself one."
The maiden smiled and hugged the girl. "Thank you, Ariayous."
