The worst part of Haven’s day always happens to be going to school. She dreads it so much. To her it is the worst thing that anyone could possibly make her do. On school days, she wakes up hoping that someone will finally accept her at school. Of course, she tries as hard as she can to become normal. She always tries making friends, always to be turned down due to rumors and what people say she has done or will do. Every day that she goes to school she gets made fun of or has things thrown at her. People say things about her that stick to her, and they never go away.
Her home life is not much better, but she feels safer there. Her mom is addicted to alcohol, and is always tucked away in her room, drunk, or passed out. Her father gambles and always tries to fight with her mom, but he is rarely even home. When they are both home, and everything is calm, they pay little to no attention to her. Every night she finds herself in the corner of her room, crying over these things that trouble her.
The reason she is made fun of at school is because she is different. She wears her hair in a different style, her clothes are darker than what other people wear, and her makeup is slightly darker. She wears a different brand of shoes. Clothes are clothes. Makeup is makeup. Hair is hair. Shoes are shoes. So what is MAJORLY different in their eyes? What makes her SO MUCH different, to the point where they have to make fun of her, or to the point where she is ignored?
None of the adults notice what is going on. They never see it, and she doesn’t have the voice to speak up about it. There are several witnesses, but all they ever do is smirk about it and walk off. So, basically, she has no backup and no friends. She feels truly alone.
So, here is part of a typical day in Haven’s life, through her eyes:

Sighing, she brushes through her long, black hair slowly, making sure to get rid of her bed-head. She puts on a Black Veil Brides shirt, and throws on a pair of red skinny jeans. She puts on a pair of Converse, and ties them carefully. She cautiously puts on a jacket that matches her clothes, and then she puts a few bracelets on her wrists. She then sits on a chair, in front of a large mirror, and puts on her makeup. She looks in the mirror for a moment and smiles at herself, a smile that she promises she will try to wear for the rest of the day.
She checks the time, and swiftly grabs her backpack and walks out of her room. She tries to be quiet while walking down the hallway, sure that her mother must still be asleep. When she reaches the kitchen she grabs an apple, and then looks up to see her mother there. Her mom reaches for a bottle of vodka, putting it in a shot glass, and taking a sip. She refills it again, and drinks it. She does this a few more times before heading back to her room.
Haven shakes her head, and walks out of the house, apple in hand. She quickly heads to her bus stop, and sits down on what is left of the bench. She takes a bite of the apple, quietly thinking to herself.

“Today is a new day. I can start off fresh and try to make some new friends.”

She smiles and gets up as the bus comes around the corner. She tosses the apple core to the side and keeps the smile on her face. She steps away from the bench, as soon as the bus stops, and made her way to the bus.
As soon as she gets on she can see people snickering at her. They were probably talking about her. She shrugs it off and sits down in a vacant seat near the front of the bus. She pushes her earphones into her ear, and turns up her music a little to avoid hearing any comments from the people behind or beside her.
Not long after the bus arrives at her school. She pulls out a mirror from her purse, and looks at her reflection. She check to make sure that her makeup isn’t running, and that her hair is nice and straight. As soon as she sits up, something wet hits her face. In shock she wipes it off, and curiously looks at it. A spitball. She looks in the direction it came from, and sees a group of girls smiling wickedly at her. She smiles back and makes her way off of the bus.
She puts a smile back on her face and makes her way to the school’s doors. People glance curiously at her, and mutter to themselves, and those around them. She takes her headphones out, shuts off her phone, and shoves them inside her jacket pocket. She opens the doors to the school, and walks inside.
The halls are nearly empty with not a single teachers and barely any students in sight. She rounds the corner toward her locker and her first block. Those who are around pay her no attention as she grabs her textbooks, binders, and folders. She begins to put them in her backpack when she notices the group of girls from her bus. She rapidly turns, leaving her backpack unzipped. Textbooks in hand, she scurries to her classroom, trying to avoid them.
She is nearly there when a girl gently taps on her shoulder. Haven turns around and looks, which is a bad mistake. The girl turns her around so Haven is facing her, and then she shoves Haven into the all. Her books fall to the ground, as the girl pulls Haven toward her again, and balls her free hand into a fist.
The bell rings, saving Haven from what could have happened. The girl pushes her into the wall again, making her trip over her textbooks and hit her head on the corner of one of the lockers. After that, the girl walks back to her friends, smirking and laughing at what she just did. Clumsily, Haven picks herself back up. She grabs her books and hurries off to the girls’ bathroom as students fill the halls.
As soon as she reaches her destination, she pushes herself into a stall. She locks the door behind her and sinks down to her knees. She begins to tear up. She gets lost in her own thoughts. She starts to feel as if the world would be a better place without her. She feels the tears boil over, and she hides her face in her hands. She doesn’t feel like being here anymore. She doesn’t feel like she has a reason to live.
Haven feels so alone, as if no one cares, all because of those girls. But, this is an everyday occurrence. They never leave her alone, and she never has the voice to speak up about it. No one who sees it is willing to help her. So what is the point of living if you are always being pushed around, and you have no one who cares?

The story and pain goes on, and it never ends. None of the teachers or anyone with authority ever sees it. No one is willing to help her. She feels hopeless and helpless because if the pain she goes through every day at school, a place where people should feel safe. This is just one story that has been left unspoken. This is what goes on behind people’s backs when they are turned.
