The Dark Heart Hunters

Chapter Two

"Get ready!" Aspareta holds up her shotgun, finger on the trigger, ready to fire.
Heart holds the pistol in her trembling hand, finger on the trigger, scared of what was coming. She lets out a shaky breath.
Whatever was coming, it was sure taking its precious time getting here. Nothing alive could possibly walk this slow.
The sound of footsteps grew closer, and as they did low moans could be heard. Heart's hands start to tremble more. These thing weren't alive. It's as if you could here the reaper himself laughing and singing in their moans.
"Aspareta--" Heart whispers but is cut off.
"Something is wrong here..." Aspareta mumbles.
Lazer's growls grow even louder and more intense. He could smell that there was more then one. He gets in a protective stance in front of Aspareta, Heart still standing right behind her.
Heart closes her eyes, listening solemnly where the moans were coming from. As she continue to focus her hearing the sound of shuffling feet was much crisper to Heart, allowing her to figure out how many enemies they would have to face.
"There are two of them." Heart mutters softly.
Aspareta smirks.
"Good. Then there is one for each of us. Lets go meet them where the streets meet because I am tired of waiting," Aspareta starts walking, Heart nearly on her heels.
"Aspareta shouldn't we think of a plan before we go--"
"NO. I AM TIRED OF WAITING."
With that Heart keeps her mouth shut. They are near the corner. The sound of feet dragging against the asphalt and moaning was loud and clear now. Aspareta stops and holds her arm out.
"We stop here. We are close enough." She whispers.
Heart nods and turns away, rolling her eyes, and mutters, "What was that about not waiting..?"
Less then two minutes later two decaying, walking bodies round the corner. Heart lets out a squeal in disgust. The sight of them is revolting. Flesh is falling off of their bones, there are gaps in their body, holes big enough that you could see the bone. Their eyes are greyed over, a sign that these things were once dead. Their human teeth have been replaced with razor sharp, shark-like teeth.
Aspareta turns around, steps behind Heart, and gags loudly, taking her eyes off of the target. Heart, holding her pistol with shaking hands, fired at one of them, hitting it in the leg. The decaying body continues to walk toward them, the shot ineffective.
"ASPARETA PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER! I NEED HELP HERE!" Heart fires another round hitting the other body on its shoulder.
Turning around for merely a second, Heart notices that Aspareta is knocked out cold on the street. Heart sighs in frustration.
"Lazer," Heart nods toward Aspareta, "Take care of her. I'll deal with these two."
She turns back, facing the zombies. No matter where she shot them they will not stop... She pulls the shotgun off of the strap on her back, aiming it at the one in the lead's chest. She fires another three rounds. The things continues to walk toward her. She lets out a scream and aims it toward the monsters head, firing a few more rounds. Again, to no avail, the bullets didn't work.
Panicking, Heart shoots at both zombies at random. She drops the gun and picks up Aspareta, running in the opposite direction that the zombies were walking.
"IF SOMEONE IS HERE PLEASE HELP ME!" Heart screams in desperation, tears forming in her eyes, "Please..."
She continues to run with Aspareta in her arms, tears strolling down her face.
After running a mile, Heart stopped and set Aspareta down, panting. She screamed once more. Tears poured out of her eyes, she started plotting what she would do next.
She sighs softly when she realizes what she has to do. She wouldn't make it to the meeting place. Heart cries even more when she realized she wouldn't be able to say goodbye to Aspareta.
She looks at Lazer with sad eyes and speaks with a soft voice, "Lazer, stay her with Aspareta. When she wakes up guide her to the meeting place. Keep her safe, " Heart chokes on her words, "for me... Please. Don't let her come after me."
Lazer lets out a soft whimper in agreement. He goes and lays down next to Aspareta, his eyes wide, watching the premises. Heart starts to walk back the way she came from.
Heart took the second and last shotgun off of the strap on her back. She cradles the gun in her arms, hoping that SOMEHOW someone or something will come save her, because it is obvious that this gun wouldn't do it because the other gun didn't. She drags her feet in the snow, dreading her future. She has a reason for this suicide mission, though, she needed save Aspareta a little more time.
She is two thirds of the way there when she can hear the moans off in the distance. Goosebumps form on her arms. She looks around cautiously, hoping nothing was sneaking up on her. She had to do this for Aspareta, if she failed it would be the end for both of them. She sighed, looking down at the gun in her arms. She needed a different weapon, the firearms she had being ineffective against this new enemy. She tosses the gun to the side, it leaving a small trail in the snow where it slid.
She continues to walk forward, her hands in her pockets. She stares at the ground, deep in thought. She never thought it would end like this, she thought that somehow, someway she would be able to live a happy life with Aspareta by her side. One friend is enough, right? Hopefully Aspareta would die of old age and nothing else. After all, that is why Heart is doing this.
The moans grew louder as she got closer to the zombies. She started to tremble, her hands shaking in her pockets. Her breathing became irregular and tears formed in her eyes. The zombies were now in sight now. She holds her hands up in surrender and continues to walk toward them. She stops walking when she is approximately ten yards away from them. She stands still, closing her eyes, accepting her fate.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't travel further with you, Aspareta.. Keep her safe, Lazer." She mutters softly to herself.
Inch by inch the zombies grew closer.
Heart slowly opened her eyes. Off in the distance she could see two figures, both which looked like kids. One was on a skateboard, and the other on a bike of some sort.
"Run!" Heart screamed, staying in the same place.
One of them yelled back, "YOU should be the one running! Don't stand there like a statue, you noob!"
Heart looked at the figures in confusion. They weren't kids, she could tell by the depth in whomever spoke's voice.
She turns around and starts to run. The two guys neared the zombies, hopping off their shateboard and bike.
After running what she thought was a good enough distance, Heart stops and turns around to look at the two strangers. She studies both of them closely. The one on the skateboard was taller than the one that was on the bike, both had blond hair and were pretty well built, but the one on the skateboard has longer hair that grew to the tip of his nose.
"Myst, are you ready?" The taller one spoke, picking up his skateboard.
"Duh, Jesse." He grabs his handle bars, pulling them out, reavealing daggers.
Smirking, he kicks his bike into a zombie, knocking the zombie over. A dark chuckle escapes from both of their lips, almost at the same time. Heart's eye twitches.
"Don't you guys have weapons?" She yells, but both ignored her, focusing all of their attention on the zombies. She had not noticed that Myst pulled daggers out of his bike.
Jesse slowly walks over to the zombie, knocking it upside the head with his skateboard. The zombie stumbles back, giving Jesse enought time to step behind it, a razor sliding out of a small opening in the middle of his skateboard. He slices the zombie in the middle of its back, nearly cutting it in half.
He nods toward Heart, "I'm going to go check on the noob. You take care of that one," he nods toward the zombie that was struggling to get the bike off of itself.
Myst grins and steps toward the zombie, twirling the daggers in his hands.
"It was nice playing with you," He smiles darkly, stepping on the middle of the bike, crushing some ribs.
The zombie let out a loud moan in pain. Swiftly, Myst stabs both daggers in the middle of the zombie's body, moving both of the daggers in the opposite direction of the other, tearing the zombie in half.
Myst picks up his bike, putting the daggers back in. He walks with his bike over to Jesse and Heart.
"Why were you standing there like a moron?! You could have been killed, noob!" Jesse flips his hair and sighed in frustration.
Heart was still trembling in fear and on the verge of passing out.
"Dude. She is obviously in shock. Stop questioning her and yelling at her!" Myst took his jacket off, putting it around Heart's shoulders, her trembling automatically stopping.
"Aspareta..." Heart mumbles lowly.
"Aspareta?" Both Myst and Jesse look at her in confusion.
Heart nearly jumps up, Myst's jacket falling off.
"Noob, what's going on?" Jesse spoke, putting his hand on her shoulder, trying to stop her.
She begins to sprint in the direction where she left Aspareta and Lazer.
"Scaring girls away again, I see." Myst smirks and laughs softly.
Jesse slaps the back of Myst's head and puts his skateboard on the ground. He steps on it and starts following Heart, Myst right behind him.
