The Dark Heart Hunters

Chapter 3

Heart continues to run, Myst and Jesse following her at a distance.
"Who do you think this Aspareta person is?" Myst says quietly.
"Obviously someone important to her." Jesse replies.
"No reallllllllyyyyy?" Myst replies sarcastically and glares at Jesse out of the corner of his eye.
"But... In all seriousness," Myst looks at Jesse, his voice growing softer, "Maybe she just woke up... Maybe she wasn't killed when all of this started. Maybe, just maybe this Aspareta person is a dead friend."
Jesse looks at him, "We will just have to see."
They both nod and go silent.

(A mile or so down the road: Where Heart left Aspareta)

Heart pants, reaching the spot where she left Aspareta and Lazer. No one was in site. There are not any tracks revieiling where they went. Heart let out a shocking scream and began to panick.
She falls on her knees in the slushy snow and begins to act histarical, moving the snow from one place to another, hoping that it would somehow change what she was seeing. She begins to cry.
Myst starts to talk to her, but all she can hear are low murmurs. She begins to shake vigorously as a flashback pops in her mind.

Flashback:

Heart and Aspareta were sitting by a sparkling lake, everything was calm, settle. This was only a few days after mostly everyone in the town disappeared. There was another girl with them, her name was Yuki, but she preferred it if they called her Kawaii.
Kawaii was rude to both Aspareta and Heart, but they tolerated her because she was a surviver.
"Aspareta...," Heart whispered, enjoying the silence.
"Yeah?" Aspareta says in a soothing voice.
"Why didn't we die when everyone else did?" Heart looks at Aspareta through the corner of her eye.
"I don't know," Aspareta stares at the lake lost in thought for a moment, "Maybe it's because we are immortal."
Heart and Aspareta let out a soft laugh.
"As if!," Kawaii rolled her eyes and sighed loudly, "If I were stuck with the both of you forever I would kill myself. You two don't deserve immortality. But I do. I also deserve boys who will shower me with gifts, but for all I know they are all dead!"
Heart opened her mouth to say something, but Aspareta had quickly put her hand over Heart's mouth.
"If you don't appreciate us taking you in, then feel free to leave any time." Aspareta glares at Kawaii.
"I don't. You two will die without me, but that's fine by me!" She smirked and got up.
Without saying another work Kawaii stormed off, leaving without saying another.
After a minute or two, Aspareta moved her hand away from Heart's mouth.
"Are we going to follow her..?"
"No," Aspareta went back to staring at the pond, "She thinks she's better off without us, let her think that. Hopefully she will realize that she is wrong."
Heart nods and lays down on her back, staring up at the treetops. Aspareta mimicked her a minute later, and they both closed their eyes.
A while later the both hear a shriek in terror and pain.
"KAWAII!" Heart jumped up, getting to her feet.
Aspareta was still sleeping. Heart gently kicked her side.
"Ow! What was that for?!" Aspareta shot up.
"I think Kawaii is in trouble!" Heart said, taking Aspareta's hand in hers, running toward where the screams came from.
By the time they got there it was to late. Kawaii's body was tied to a wooden beam that was stained in red.
Heart stumbled back, trembling. Aspareta stepped forward, studying Kawaii's body closely. Aspareta steps back, walking toward Heart. She pulled Heart into a tight hug.
"It'll be okay. I won't let anything or anyone hurt you.," Aspareta whispers softly, "She will be happier now."
Heart slowly nods, tears pouring down her face, and whimpers, "Now there is only the two of us..."
Aspareta nods.
"Lets make a promise," Aspareta pulls Heart away to look into our eyes, "If one of us dies, the other has to kill them self, or get the same "thing" to kill them."
Heart looks at her, and then down, "I don't think I can make that promise..."
"Then I will. If you die, I die too." Aspareta smiles.
Tears formed in the corner of Aspareta's eyes as she pulled Heart against her again.
"I will not let what happened to Kawaii happen to you," The tears began to fall down Aspareta's face, "Never. I will protect you with my life."

Present Moment:

"ASPARETA! ASPARETA PLEASE ANSWER ME!" Heart screams, tears blurring her vision.
Myst gets off his bike and walks toward her, "Please calm down and explai---"
"HEART!" Low shouts are heard from the other side of an office building.
Heart shoots up, and starts to walks toward the direction the shouts are coming from.
Myst and Jesse follow her, rounding the corner of the building.
"Aspareta..?" Heart whimpers softly.
Aspareta turns around quickly and runs toward Heart, Lazer following her.
Aspareta reaches Heart and pulls her into a tight hug, tears streaking both of their faces. Heart weakly wraps her arms around Aspareta's waste.
"I thought I lost you..." Aspareta whispers, her voice cracking between words.
"I thought you had already--" Heart chokes on her words.
"Girls, girls. Please stop with the dramatic moment." Jesse says, hoping off of his skateboard.
Aspareta looks at Myst and Jesse, "Who are those morons...?"
"I don't know... But they saved me..." Heart pulls away from Aspareta and looks at them.
Myst and Jesse glare at Aspareta, "Did you just call us morons?!"
Aspareta smirks and steps toward both of them, leaving Heart's side.
"Why yes, yes I did." She giggles darkly.
There is a soft thud of something hitting the ground. Everyone turns around to see Heart passed out on the ground. Aspareta rushes to her side.
"It must be from exhaustion..." Myst says, walking to stand beside Aspareta, hands in his pockets, kneading down near Heart's head.
He lets out a sigh, takes his hands out of his pockets, and picks her up.
Aspareta grabs Myst's shoulder, "Where do you think you're going, buddy?"
He looks at Lazer and then at her, "We have been looking for where the survivors are gathering. Sadly, our guide died protecting us, so we've been looking for this place for weeks."
Aspareta sighs and lets go of him, "I'll take your bike thingy..."
He nods. Jesse had propped himself a wall, his eyes closed, headphones in his ear.
Aspareta walks over to him and pokes his forehead, "Time to go, skater boy."
Reading her lips, he nods and puts his skateboard back on the ground. Aspareta grabs Myst's bikes and gets on it.
Jesse slips his headphones out, "I think we should find a shelter for tonight."
"Why?" Aspareta looks at him and he points up to the sky.
A dark grey cloud had covered the area. The cloud is low, so that means it there is a snowstorm on the way.
Aspareta makes an "o" with her lips.
Jesse smirks, "There was a house a couple streets down. I think we will be safe there."
Myst and Aspareta nod, as Jesse pushes himself off of the wall. He walks toward the house.
Within a matter of minutes they reach the house and are inside. Lazer runs and jumps on the vacant couch. Myst sets Heart down on the love seat.
"Can I ask you two something...?" Aspareta looks at Jesse and Myst.
"You just did," Jesse winks, "but what's the question?"
"What were those... Those things?" A chill ran up her spine.
"Zombies." Jesse chuckled.
Aspareta rolls her eyes and looks at Myst, hoping he has an answer.
"Somewhere, somehow, these demons learned how to use dead bodies. They possess them, waking them for a final period of time. Of course the people aren't there in spirit, but their bodies are still in contact. The demons use them to mess with us. They may be slow, but if you let them touch you, you're dead. Shooting them won't kill them, but if you decapitate them of break their spine they will no longer be able to move. It also traps the demon inside of the body, inabiling it from moving to another one." Myst closes his eyes and then opens them to look at Heart.
"That makes a lot of sense..." Aspareta looks at Heart as well and then at Myst, "Thanks."
"No problem. Now, time for my question. Who's taking first watch?" Myst looks from Heart to Aspareta, and from Aspareta to Jesse, "Obviously this chick can't do it."
He nods toward Heart.
"I will. I've gotten enough sleep for today." Aspareta laughs sheepishly.
"I'll take second, and you can take third, Myst." Jesse walks to one of the bed rooms.
Aspareta sits on the couch next to Lazer, taking her notebook out of her bag.
"G'Night Aspareta." Myst leaves the room, heading to the room across from Jesse's.
"Goodnight strange boy." She whispers and starts to write.

Hello viewers! It's been about two weeks (?) since I've updated. I've had a lack of insperation and I have also been very busy.
