Nintendo Wifi Connection for Nintendo DS and Wii games is shutting down on May 20, 2014.
This means no more online connection for DS and Wii games such as Pokemon, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros Brawl.
If you have any DS and Wii games including DSiWare and WiiWare, you might want to make the most out of the online features right now. You'll never get another oportunity to use it after May 20.
Your DS and Wii friend codes will be effectively useless so take them out of your profile after May 20.
Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games will be unaffected so don't worry about them. DSi/WiiShop will also be unaffected (for now).
For those who play Pokemon, make use of the GTS and online trades right now because the only other way of getting certain Pokemon is transfering from past generations.
Smash Bro players, make the most out of your online matches because Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U won't be out until later this year.
All other games, play your online modes now.
For more details and a list of affected games see the link below. It will load even on a DSi Browser.
List of Affected Games
I'll have to get in a few more Negotiation trades in then on B/B2... At least P2P is still possible if you alter your DNS, so stuff like pokeGTS should still work for generating test 'mons, since they use their own servers...
Disappointed when I first found out, but not everything lasts forever. Better make the best of it and enjoy all the good times I enjoyed online. Not so worried though, seeing that SSB 3DS will be soon to arrive. But till then adieu, Wi-fi.
*http://send-nintendo-wifi.com because so many people can't be bothered to type.
Btw this isn't by me or Austin Burk/Sudofox (of Sudomemo), although we're trying to help out with it. We know the guys
Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up that this is due to Nintendo using GameSpy technology to power their online networks for the DS and Wii. Since GameSpy is shutting down, Nintendo has no choice but to close the service.
OP, feel free to add this into your blog post if you like

I think it's more than that. That may be a big factor, yes, but I think there's other things behind it. I think Nintendo just wants more monies. That's it. They want you to buy the Wii U and 3DS to continue using online. They are paying for the services. Not a lot, but still.

I doubt Nintendo has those intentions. It's just that they have to prioritize other things. Also the majority of the games online are hacker ridden.
