Update: Nintendo has patched some of these exploits required to install the Homebrew Channel. More updates coming soon.

Hey, nooblets.
Today I come to you with blog with interesting news for the Nintendo 3DS.
As you may know (or probably don't), some xX[[HACKERS]]Xx (smea, yellows8, plutoo, etc.) have been hard at work to develop an exploit (or an xX[[HACK]]Xx) on all Nintendo 3DS units running a certain system software to run unsigned code.
And they have.
This exploit allows unsigned code to run and to install certain non-Nintendo applications on the Nintendo 3DS using a back door.
What kind of applications you may ask? The Homebrew Launcher (for now).
WHAT IS THE HOMEBREW LAUNCHER?
It's really quite simple. It's like SpringBoard on iOS. It allows you to install applications to it and run them through the launcher itself, but of course, the launcher has to be present to do this.
Some applications and tweaks include:
•3DSCraft - A Minecraft clone for the 3DS
•blargSnes - A SNES emulator for the 3DS
•GameYob - GameBoy Color emulator for the 3DS
•3DNES - NES emulator for the 3DS
•Removal of the infamous Region Lock in the near future
And lots more!
Downloading these are easy and fast, but you have to make sure you download them from the correct source and know how to follow instructions.
The Homebrew Launcher allows you to do things with your Nintendo 3DS that you couldn't before. And of course, this runs seemlessly with all of your regular 3DS software, games, and system functionality.
If you know how the Homebrew Channel worked on the Wii, then you know how this one works on the 3DS.
PURPOSE
The Homebrew Launcher is designed for the public to try out, test out, and have fun with, but it an intelligent way.
It's not designed encourage piracy, according to the developers, or to ruin the online experiences for official games.
You can also tweak your 3DS as much as you'd like, similarly how you can do to iOS with a Jailbreak, or how you could do on the Wii with the Homebrew Channel.
The Homebrew Launcher is dependent on the SD Card. You can add content (emulators, games, tweaks, etc.) through it using your computer, and you can also update it to use other exploits for future versions if Nintendo does decide to patch this.
IS IT SAFE? YES. IS IT REVERSIBLE? YES.
A common misconception is that doing any kind of modification to a piece of software unofficially (commonly known as "hacking" is completely unsafe.
Running unsigned code on something brings the possibility for undesired code to be run to cause undesired operation, that is completely true.
But you have to be smart when doing this. You have to make sure that you download the code from a trusted source, and know exactly what you are downloading, why and how.
You also have to use common sense when modifying, or tweaking, a piece of software. You should be safe this way.
The problem is that some people aren't so smart when doing this, and when something happens, they moan and whine to media about it, which is what creates this common misconception.
You can also easily uninstall the Homebrew Launcher, it's applications/tweaks, and everything else using your computer and the informational link provided below.
HOW TO INSTALL AND MORE INFORMATION
Check out this link (it is not a direct download link):
As always, get informed first and perform at your own risk!
In a nutshell, you need:
•A working PC with access to the Internet
•A Nintendo 3DS running versions 4.0.0-7U/E/J to 9.2.0-20U/E/J with access to the Internet
•An SD Card that has been set up by a 3DS
•A copy of CUBIC NINJA from retail or the eShop (click the link to learn why)
•A working brain that is computer literate
•The provided download files from the official source
If you have two Nintendo 3DS's, and one with no content on it, perform this on your backup 3DS like I did. You have nothing to lose. It's quite interesting.
PERFORM THIS AND YOU'LL BECOME THE PR0 1337 3DS xXXX[[H4CK3R]]XXXx!
No system updates yet, a bit suspicious don't you think?
Pricewise, I spent about £37 (abt £35 plus £2 postage) on a copy off eBay, and considering 3DS games retail for about £40 over here that's not exactly cheap. Still, people were asking £75 Buy It Now, so I guess I got a good deal lol. Hasn't been delivered yet. Still waiting...
This'll be hard to do since I've searched up Cubic Ninja and it seems it's been pulled off of the eShop. Finding a retail copy might be difficult now too. Still, pretty darn clever.

I found it at Target for $10.
Shouldn't be that rare.

Maybe when I get my 3/2Ds, I'll hunt down a copy just for this :p
Kinda sad how it only works with Cubic Ninja's scanner and not Mii one.

Nintendo will probably release a System Update soon that will block this exploit, which will make it more challenging for the development team to continue providing an installation method.
I'm sure they'll find a way though.

Not like updating does much for the system anyways, right?
....Right?
