When there's a blog drought, there's a really logical topic to write about.
It's Splatoon. Is there ever a time when Splatoon isn't appropriate to talk about?
"Why should we hire you?"
"Well, I'm hyped about Splatoon, which is coming out soon."
"You're the man we're looking for. You're hired."
So if you were like any normal person with a Wii U that was even mildly interested in Splatoon, you played the Global Testfire at least once.
In case you didn't know, the Global Testfire is a downloadable demo of Splatoon for people to try it out, and Nintendo put the servers up for one-hour segments three times over the weekend.
So of course I took the opportunity to play. And if you didn't play, let me tell you how it was.
It was kind of amazing. No, it was full-on amazing. I could have used "amaze-INK" there like Nintendo does, but that's a really bad pun so I won't. Why didn't they just stick to inkredible?
But anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm buying it now.
Oh, and during the demo, I didn't hear anyone through a voice chat feature. Because there isn't one. And it works fine without it. I didn't wish for a moment that it was there while I was playing.
Like I said before, I'm fine if they add it for friends matches in case you don't have a cell phone and haven't talked to your friends lately, but it isn't required for public matches.
And now, having played Splatoon, I have discovered that the matches are so fast paced and the goals are so obvious that voice chat just isn't necessary. It's kind of like Mario Kart Wii's battle mode. You were on teams but voice chat wasn't necessary. You just knew what you had to do and did it.
banman you already wrote a blog about this
I did, but that blog was mainly inspired by the irritating comments from upset people on the internet. And I hadn't played Splatoon at the time of writing that.
Now that I've played it, although not a lot, I can confidently say it works without voice chat.
It looks great, but like Hector said it should cost $30 at the most.
It looks good but it is definitely not perfect. It looks barebones and some of the single player is locked behind amiibos that we'll never get because of those damned scalpers and a limited library.
However, it's too expensive. If Nintendo wants to push out a new IP to as many people as possible, they should've made it more affordable.
But the price doesn't mean it won't be a hit.
And based on the amount of content I've seen from the game, it looks more like a $20 game at the most. But it's all about the replay value, so it's okay.
