I wanted to gauge interest in the idea of setting up a Patreon account for this community to see what everyone thinks.

As of today Project Wonderful no longer serves ads (which didnâ€™t bring in much, anyways), and we are not set up with any other ad networks for this community (mostly due to their intrusive nature). The plan has always been to keep this community free, but there are hosting costs, which must be covered. Plus, with a focus returning to this community to modernize it, there are those inherent costs.

To help fund upkeep of the community, I am considering the creation of a Patreon account, where members of the community could voluntarily contribute. I donâ€™t know what incentives to offer to patrons yet for donations or if those contributing would consider this community to be enough in and of itself to warrant support.

Who would be interested in supporting the community through a Patreon account? What ideas do you have in relation to it? Let me know in the comments.

Will you take other donation methods like Paypal?

Also, as for incentive ideas, would having another member force to change their username for 1 week be an idea?

Patreon has tools in place to make collaboration with patrons easy, so you would miss out on those by using PayPal. I wonâ€™t say no if you would like to support the community that way, though. Anything to help with the costs would be appreciated.

google adsense pays so much better but is so much more obnoxious

This community had Adsense years ago, and Google flagged the account for inappropriate click activity. I filed a protest, and they ignored it and kept all the money earned for the previous 2 months. Iâ€™m currently part of a class action lawsuit against them for that scam.

I'd say that you should get one for sure. I can't really put anything in at the moment, but probably at some point. I'm very grateful for this site and community and would hate to see it go.
