Like in Doubles, such moves (assuming they are attack moves, and not multi target status moves, anyway) inflict 75% of the damage they'd inflict in a Single Battle.
Because of this, multi target attacks and status moves (like Dark Void) are EXTREMELY powerful in Triples, particularly if used from the center position.
(Initimidate works well from the center position, too.)
I've gotten a lot of criticism for recommending the move "Fly" for Landorus in one of my Moveset blogs before, and their argument was that the move was a "dead giveaway", and was therefore completely useless.
Now, regardless of whether or not this is true in Single Battles, or even in Doubles, it is most certainly NOT the case in Triple Battles, and I'll explain why.
Even if there is an obvious target, you don't necessarily have to go for it, and as a result, you can take advantage of these moves in a variety of ways in Triple Battles.
dont see why you would talk about triple battles and not rotation battles, the ACTUAL underappreciated gamemode, and even then theres structural issues as usual but i know if i decline you're gonna throw a hissy fit so i am going to do nothing
Thanks for not declining this. (Especially considering a hadn't even gotten around to editting it properly before I submitted it.)
But yes, Rotation Battles are underappreciated, as well, but I'm writing about Triples because they're my specialty.
(And to explain why I feel how I do about 2 turn moves, lol!)
My RL situation is somewhat chaotic, which lead to me trying to submit it before the date, which I had delayed by 48 hours 2 days ago.
Unfortunately, I had finished editting it before I replied to your comment, though.
(It's OK, though, as I can always ask one of my friends to copy and paste it into a new blog, and re-submit it.)
Too bad the positioning aspect is LAME and doesn't introduce anything that's more skillful to the scene. It is a new field compared to doubles. But it really Isn't interesting at all. The positioning aspect is gate keeping af lol. It ruins the 3 pokemon vibe if anything. Now imagine if tripple battles didn't have it. And you could attack anyone on the board, THAT would actually make it more skillful then doubles. I would even bet VGC would be all over it than. Sadly that's not reality.
The real under appreciated battle style is rotation battles lol. Rotating is basically free switching while not being impossible to predict because you can SEE the pokemkn on the rotating disc, while also promoting high predictability levels among players, and introducing more thought provoking plays. Too bad the only representation rotation battles got was Charles The Heartbreaker lolol
Well, you're definitely right about Rotation Battles getting the same treatment. (Neither Format was very well represented in Gen 5 outside of the PWT, IMO.)
Of course, they rectified this somewhat in Gen 6, by including them both in the Battle Maison (something they should've done with the Battle Subway in Gen 5, IMO.)
Of course, I think that the worst part was what they did to both Formats in Gen 7. (Meaning removing them both entirely.)
As for what you said about the Distance thing, I agree that it would be interesting to have seen what Triples would've been like without it, but at the same time, I think it was an interesting idea, and adds an extra level of complexity to Triples. (As does the existence of Long Distance Moves, IMO.)
Pretty much. rotation battles literally have the potential to be in high level competitive pokemon like right now. But nobody plays it :/
Also I agree with everything besides the part you said positioning adds "new complexity". It literally doesn't. Your blog doesn't explain it, you only explain how it shows a difference between doubles and tripples. It's just a nerf to the game mode. And tbh that's why its not viable or picked up by Nintendo tournaments themselves or VGC.
