Today's an amazing day~! With all the decorations in town, I can feel everybody's hard work coming to life. Even more so in the evenings!
To entertain the children under her care, Miss Houshou invited some of the best storytellers in town for a ghost story contest. Everybody gathered in an online meeting and was anxious to get started. When the time came, we were projected onto a large screen for everybody at Houshou's to see. All the children were visibly excited... so cute! The lights dimmed, and we each took a whack at telling the most light-hearted, yet scary, ghost stories these children will hear for years to come.
Naturally, I was invited! And of course, with permission, I recorded the who~le thing. Yuubari will probably broadcast the whole thing at a later date once I finish processing the audio. Amazing, isn't it?
I've attached the edited version below. Hope it doesn't give 'ya the chills~!
Houshou: "Thank you, everyone, for joining us in our first annual ghost story competition! Please give our contestants a round of applause."
*the children clap*
<fade out and in>
"It seems like everybody here wants Tenryuu to go first! Start when you're ready!"
"Alright, here we go.
When I was first posted here, I couldn't help but notice a lack of a seafood market. So after I was relieved of my duty, I bought a fishing boat and resolved to bring home a big enough catch to sell here to make a living.
So I went out the next morning to try my hand at fishing. As I pulled out of the cove out front of the base, a fog surrounded me. Then I heard somebody drive by at full speed and crash into the coast. There were screams of pain and for help. I boated over to help 'em out, but the coast was too close, so I ended up rammin' into it. By the time the fog cleared, I saw nuthin'! No one!
"I heard later that there was a rather large ferry full 'o passengers that sunk there about 20 years ago. Legend has it after their boat was turned over Legend has it, after their boat turned over from a big wave, it crashed into th' shore, and nobody survived. Maybe it was their spirits haunting me, I thought...
"But when I went back out, it turned out it was just a small shipment of puppies coming in for adoption. Silly me."
Tatsuta: "Oh my, Tenryuu. Again with your mixups, aren't you?"
Houshou: "Haha, thank you, Tenryuu. Everybody give her a round of applause!"
*polite applause*
Houshou: "And next is Miyuki!"
Miyuki: "Thank you, Houshou! This one's from when I was first posted to the base.
"I was assigned night patrol in the buildings for the first half of the night, as is standard for newbies. I had a map to familiarize myself with the structure of the admin building and everything.
"Suddenly! when I walked by the print shop on the second floor, I heard something below me. I looked on the map, and it was near the storage room. I had to investigate.
"So I walked down the flight of stairs and found nothing, not even a trace of anything. But right as I turned to leave, I heard a creak and a moan of the floorboards. There were footsteps, too.
"Who could it be? There was nobody up, and it was pitch black in and out, so there's no way that anybody could have walked here to steal resources. I thought then and there, a river spirit was in the building. Or a ghost. It was certainly to be feared.
"When I creaked open the door to the storage room, I was stunned to find... Akagi. Darn it, she was filching supplies! Something about home cooking, even tried to bribe me! I was half scared to death seeing something move, so I just stood there, shocked. Oh, gee, I must've left in a hurry because I remembered nothing else..."
Houshou: "Haha, what a surprise, right? A round of applause for Miyuki, everyone!"
*applause*
Awwlright, that's all I'll show you for now! Everything else will be aired on Yuubari's radio broadcast, so stay tuned~. Hehe
