Hidden behind mist
Behind trees and mountains
The bushi is home
Chilled weathered to the bone
His katana cries when unsheathed
His armor is like a tortoiseshell
So heavy, oh so heavy
Impossible to lighten
The bygone battles
So fierce and full of pain
Kill the enemies, bring glory
Return, repeat
Avenge the wronged
Keep the blood on his hands and off of those loved
With respect for those he killed, he buries their heads
Their bodies would provide gunpowder
His horse, it had been good
It carried him gallantly
His men followed him
Such a leader he was
One speech and men would follow him through hell
He conquered and lost
He had children and outlived them
Overrun by emotions from battle, seppuku was their end
Pain and shadows
Taller than the mountains
Led him to here
The edge of the world
Looking out over the edge
With a fearful grin and sad look in his eyes
One last glance back
At the land of the rising sun
(Right here was gonna be a separate poem, but idk they kinda, kinda clicked.)
As he crawled
Out over the edge
Looking back
The dark screamed his name
Trying to run from the fears
Hiding from the noises
Flashing whites of eyes
Flickering lights in the darkness
Memories running like wolves
They chased him
Monsters of the end
No chance to pretend
Scars lacerated his body
Telling a story
For all to hear
Of his ventures outside
He had one sense of feeling
To finish his mission
Complete the objectives
See it to the end
He may not have broken
But bend he did
He tried his best
But it wasn’t enough
Out of hate, he fought
Reborn from the ashes
Some creature in his skin
Fought him for control
With newfound fire in his eyes
If only for one last time
One more night
He will live, just to survive

Haven't seen enough KnY to comment on that (I've only seen the first 2 episodes so far, lol), but yeah, katanas are an extremely common type of Japanese sword.
(Then again, they're arguably the best swords in the world, which is probably why they're so common.)
