I was around seven years old at the time, lying in bed with the lights off and the radio playing softly. I couldn't sleep, so I was only half-listening as the voices on the radio blended together. But then one night, a phrase caught my attention among the murmurs and static. I still remember the sudden chill that went through me at what I heard - the memory of it has been engraved into my mind ever since. I will never forget the words I heard in my room that night, words that filled me with fear...The guest on the radio talk show spoke in an excited and slightly ominous tone. Their words echoed in my mind as I sat up in bed, alert and intrigued. "2006 is the year the soul becomes Tangible! Before we can work on recreating the human body, allow us to store your soul in the continuance cube!" This couldn't possibly go wrong. Right?
6.30am, Monday morning. I groan as I squint at the digital clock by the bed, the bright red numbers mocking my exhaustion. Just another Monday. And the nightmares haven't let up, either. I rolled onto my side, trying to ignore the memories clawing their way to the surface. The past few weeks have been brutal - But it's 6.30. No more messing around. Time to face the day. I push back the blankets, rubbing my eyes. I realized the school bus arrives at 6:30...
I flung open my dresser, grabbing the first shirt and pair of pants that crossed my hand. No time for style today. The grey T-shirt slipped over my head, followed by the jeans. I buttoned them up hastily, then grabbed my backpack off the floor and rushed for the door. I stumbled down the stairs two at a time, skipping breakfast and a greeting to mom. No time. I burst out the door, my heart sinking as I saw the bus already pulling away from the curb. Damn...Just my luck. I hopped on my bike, muscles tensing as I started pedaling hard after the bus. I was gaining ground, my heart thumping in my ears. And then - a sickening crunch as my front wheel hit a rock and I was hurtled into the air, my bike tumbling after me. I felt a fleeting moment of weightlessness before I started plunging towards the ground. The world went black. I groaned as I slowly came to, my head pounding horribly. What had happened? I forced my eyes open to find..a humanoid figure, its eyes glowing bright in the dim space. Its skin seemed almost metallic, giving an eerie sheen as it rustled through my backpack. My mind spun with confusion - what was happening? Had I fallen somewhere strange? I tried to sit up and winced, my ribs aching fiercely. The figure turned, glowing eyes meeting mine. I sucked in a sharp breath. The creature's eyes widened in alarm as it noticed I was awake. In a blur of motion, it shifted its form until it had become...a cube. It sat there, a small, plain box where the strange figure had been. I stared at it, bewildered. Was this real or some kind of fever dream? The cube began to tremble slightly. A soft, familiar female voice broke the silence, coming from the cube. "Sorry I uh...Thought you were...You uh...Weren't moving..." It sounded eerily similar to Siri. My heart rate started to settle. Maybe this wasn't a nightmare. "Uh...it's okay," I stammered, feeling faintly ridiculous talking to an inanimate object. "Wow uh...Tech is uh...Interesting..." I said before flinching at a sharp pain in my side, gingerly running a hand over my ribs. Definitely bruised, I realized. Maybe worse. That fall was pretty bad. I frowned as I tried to shift into a more comfortable position, my eyes not leaving the cube. I have so many questions..."are you injured?" The cube inquired. "Well, yes...I am-" I was about to finish my sentence when the cube shifted abruptly. A syringe emerged impossibly from its metallic back, plunging towards me. No! I screamed in my mind, trying to scoot away. But I was too late. The needle sank into my arm. I had just enough time to see the cube revert to humanoid shape before the world blurred, and I passed out. Where am I? I opened my eyes, feeling groggy and disoriented. I was lying on something soft, like a bed. The cube humanoid stood nearby, its metal skin gleaming under the overhead lights. I blinked to clear the fuzz from my eyes, squinting at the humanoid cube. The bright lights in the room made it difficult to make out details, but I could see some subtle feminine curves to its form. The cube was humanoid in shape, with sleek metallic skin. It looked almost like a living statue, its glowing eyes focused on me. This HAD to have been created by Elon Musk. The other AI assistants aren't this human shaped. little did I know who really created this thing...I cleared my throat and gathered my courage to question the cube. "Um, excuse me," I began cautiously. My voice sounded shakier than I would have liked. "Where am I, and who - or what - are you?" I braced myself for an answer that could be almost anything, my heart thumping in my chest as I waited. The cube blinked its eyes, seeming to consider its words before speaking. "You are in a facility," it said in the soft, familiar female voice. "I am Unit IC.33," It shifted slightly, its skin reflecting the lights. The room was sleek and sterile, the only sounds a faint hum and the whirring of machinery. I sat up on the bed, my mind reeling. "Do not be alarmed. I am only going to remove your internal organs and consume them." The cube said nonchalantly .
