Snowfur growled. “No fish until you're feeling better.†I winced at the sharpness in her voice. Dawn chuckled. I said, “Our mother was beta's beta. A mother she-wolf more than one of those crazy woman warriors.†“You don't think women could be fine warriors?†Dawn asked. I gasped. “But no, women are for taking care of the pups, not fighting!†Snowfur grimaced. “How sexist.â€
“You two need better names if you want to blend into the crowd in this pack. You will be Dawnfur and Duskpelt. There, two regular names!†Dawn frowned and said, “Our names are different because we are different. We stand out and our names should, too!†Snowfur looked worried. “Dawn, I mean Dawnfur, I think it'd be best if we stay low for a while.†Dawn smiled and said, “Anything for you, Duskpelt.â€
After a couple weeks of practicing our names, I healed and we acted like our aliases have been our real names our whole life. “Duskpelt?â€
“Mhm?â€
“You like that girl, Snowpelt. Your eyes give you away.â€
I frown. “Aw man! If someone as stupid as you figured that out, Snowfur probably figured it out.â€
Dawnfur growled. “I'm very intelligent. More intelligent than you, thank you, Duskpelt!†I smirk.
“'Ey! 'Ey! No bro-sis squabble! We need some serious warriors. Duskpelt, come with me! Dawnfur, go care for the pups!†the beta, Liontail, yelled. I followed Liontail, sticking out my tongue at Dawnfur. “Excuse me, sir! I am stronger and wiser than Duskpelt; shouldn't I fight in the war? My battle techniques will show no mercy, while Duskpelt will dance around the field, clawing and biting at will. Wouldn't that be a shame to see?†Dawnfur asked. Liontail shrugged, “Mm... okay. Just don't kill us all, baby.â€
My jaw dropped. Liontail set his pace to Dawnfur's and then tackled her playfully, licking her after she got pinned down.
I felt awkward. Then Snowfur ran into me. More awkward. “Uh, hi, Snowfur!†“I'm sorry! I'll just be going!†She went to her right and I went to my left and we kissed.
