My question was answered. Above us loomed an enormous gate, molded from pearl and shell, with graceful twists and curls. Ampon push through and I followed. Before us lay an entire village crafted from pearl and corral, shell and algae. Amid it all was a great palace that shone from a mysterious metal, which was fused with the slick of pearl and sturdiness of corral. Ampon and I swam through the village. There were brightly colored houses of lively purple, soft blues, and cheery greens. A few merfolk were out, and I stared at them in awe. A pretty mermaid, who looked about my age, gave me a quick smile. She had a glistening gray and blue tail and woody curls of hair that floated with the current. I smiled back. I saw two mermen, both atleast in their late teens, anchoring themselves to the bottom with rocks so they could dig holes for some Alaka plants, which Ampon told me were seaweed that was eaten most often under the surface. "It's quite a common plant," he said. I saw merfolk doing things from playing games to singing and weaving with strips of soggy seaweed. Before I knew it, we were floating before the great, gleaming palace.
