Hey everyone,
Welcome to the first (official) lesson of Japanese.
In this blog, I will just be covering some of the numbering for Lesson 1.
It will include:
Numbers 0-10/Numbers 11-29
Numbers 0-10
Rei: 0 (can also just use zero)
Ichi: 1
Ni: 2
San: 3
Yon: 4 (can also use shi)
Go: 5
Roku: 6
Nana: 7 (can also use shichi)
Hachi: 8
Kyuu: 9 (can also use ku)
Juu: 10
The names for the numbers in the parenthesizes aren’t used commonly in counting (except for 0), so try to use the names on the left. Those numbers on the right have other uses though, which you will see later.
Numbers 11-29
Okay, to say the numbers 11-19 you just combine juu with another number to equal the number you want to say.
Juuichi: 10 + 1 = 11
Juuni: 12
Juusan: 13
and so on…
To say 20, you combine the numbers ni and juu also. Just in a different order. >o>
Nijuu: 2 x 10 = 20
Make sure you notice the difference.
Nijuuichi: 2 x 10 + 1 = 21
Nijuuni: 2 x 10 + 2 = 22
Nijuusan: 23
and so on...
