Earlier tonight I had briefly spoken about his lack of support for my NEED to play guitar. My father and grandparents, moreso the grandparents, disapprove of it.
My dad called his paying for a string change ($30 cost) "support"...
Support would be buying me a pack of strings and letting me put them on myself.
That's where the argument ended....
He claims he supports me...but...If I so much as mention anything involving guitars, he gets annoyed.
My uncle Steve, a few weeks ago gave me a poster of Jimmy Page from 1978. Its got a few tears, but nothing a FRAME wouldn't be able to handle. Im not just going to pin it to my wall. He hasn't gotten me a frame yet.
Back to the guitar.
My father likes to pick up my guitar and act like he can play.
My brother likes to tell me how much I suck.
My grandmother won't let me have an electric guitar.
My grandfather has no problem, so long as I play in the garage.
and my dad puts on songs, knowing I'm not at that level, and asks me if I can play them.
My brother touches my guitar when I tell him not to. (Hes 15 and despises 60s-80s pop.which is rock, blues, and metal.)
My cousin Kevin looks like he might want to learn, and my other cousin Ryan has wanted one for months. Both 10 years old.
I have little support. The most I can play is 3 minutes of stairway to heaven, the verse in Horse with No Name (although I think youtubes guitarists teach it wrong), Part of Dance of Death, 2 songs From Zelda, and random chord progressions
Because of the lack of support.
My dad wont pay for lessons (yet. It WILL happen)
I have doubts that he wont get me an electric guitar and amp for christmas. That will make me cry so hard...I don't cry over much. Lately, the only saddening thing that will make me cry is the girl I love.
I know I sound greedy, but I didnt ask for much. Cheap guitar, cheap amp....
I have very littleexperience in guitars and I need help.....Thoughts, questions, tips, inspiration. Hit me with your best shot
My bro can play guitar but one of his strings broke and he dont ever play it any more..... it a sad thing..... i used to love hearing him play his electric guitar. he was rlly rlly good! he could play music by ear. all he had to do was listen to the song once then he tries and plays it pretty good for his first time one the song. oh wow.... i guess i got of track... anyways i think maybe u should consider to try to learn on ur own.
Im getting an epiphone les paul special and a lil 15 watt amp...
Id like some lessons though. Sure it makes more accomplished if you do everything without lessons, but Im too easily distracted.
Thanks for the tip though
Gailie, you musta read the list. and consideing my dad pretended to be Santa for 11 years (Most parents do) I don't think he's checked that list once.
Although I talked him about lessons, he told me it all depends on how much they cost....I hope its not more than 100 a month, because he may have enough money, but he doesnt like to spend it on things he deems "useless", Im also hoping the guys at the music shop have good sales pitches
accepted, reason: Again, thought it's well written, with relatively good punctuation & good spelling, I'm not sure if it has much relevance, so if another blogmin wants to overturn this bc they disagree with the acceptance, feel free.
I no has ewectic guitaw fo metal.
Why the hell am Italkinglike a baby >.<
Anyways, Heavy Metals not what I wanna play. Ill listen to it...well, from the 80s, but I wanna play more hard rock than heavy metal.
Blues, Psychadelic Rock, Soft Rock, Hard Rock. Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, America, The Beatles, John Lennon, Etc etc.
Thanks though. I know I'll end up learning some heavy metal, but it isn't my interest at the moment
