Output Devices Output devices translate information processed by the computer into a form which the user can understand.Output can be divided into two types:
1.Softcopy Output
2.Hardcopy Output
Softcopy Output Devices Display screens which are also called Monitors or Visual Display Units(VDU) are the main means of softcopy output.Screens come in a range of sizes and can be either colour or monochrome.
There are two types of display screen. These are called Cathode Ray Tube(CRT) and Flat Planel Displays.
Softcopy is temporary output and it refers to information displayed on the screen or in audio or voice form through speakers. This kind of output disappears when the computer is switched off.
Cathode Ray Tube(CRT) This is the most common type of display screen. The technology is similar to that of a television screen.Images are represented on the sreen by indivisual dots called pixels.A pixel is the smallest unit on the screen that can be turned on and off or coloured in different shapes. The number of pixels determines the redolution of the screen.Resolution is a clarity or sharpness of an image when displayed on the screen. The more pixels their are on a screen, the greater level of detail that can be shown in an image, and the higher the resolution.A screen with a high resolution display images.
