Hey. My name's Maddie Bird, and I'm currently 16 years old. The story I'm about to tell you is about a series of events that affected my life dramatically about 2 years ago. Then, everything was simple. I had friends I could trust, and a family willing to accept me for who I was. I was popular, and guys always asked me out. I got the highest grades in all my subjects. I was a perfect child, with a perfect life. But somehow, I hated my life. It was boring and plain. Everyday felt the same as the last, and I had never done anything to benefit anyone other than myself. Everyday, I felt like I was being tortured. Same faces, same stories, same problems. It was then that I met Danny Smith, the friend that changed my life forever.
It was about half past 8 in the morning. I was standing around with my friends, waiting for the school bell to ring. We all listened intently as my friend Michaela spilled out all the gossip in the school for the past week. She told us something about a new student or whatever, but I couldn't focus on her. I was looking around, finding anything that looked out of place to stare at. Because my life was so perfect and I despised it so much, I seemed to search for things that were imperfect. All of a sudden, the sun that had been hidden behind a cloud decided to shine some light over the world. The rays flashed over the schoolyard, and something caught my eye. A boy about my height, probably taller, that I had never seen before. He turned around and I got a quick glimpse of his face. Dark, brown eyes and a long, slender jawline. His lips were bright and rosy, and his skin was as pale as the moon. His long, almost shoulder-length hair blew in the wind and his glossy, brown hair became tangled. He quickly ran his hand through his hair, and it returned to what it was before. He seemed like another normal, perfect guy at my school. Or was he?
