This is the rough draft for my English III final. There are still a lot of scenes to be added, however. Instructional notes would be kind. Thank you for reading or not. Whatever.
I will never get used to this blinding light that awakens me every morning. Every day it would shine through the big, circular window in my room that showed me what was outside this place. I am used to this place and what happens inside. Every day is an adventure here. Yet, it was difficult to remember everything that happened the day before. Still, the heat radiating from the light is so powerful. I still cannot completely use the power that awaits me in my lower body. Am I stuck in this closure in which I cannot escape? There are bars sprouted from the sides of this small, yet comfortable area. I crawl up to the bars hoping I can get through them. They look to be too small but I cannot take this heat much longer. As I grasp my small hands around these bars, I slowly thrust my head through an opening. Easily it gets through but now I cannot move. Air still easily enters my body but I am stuck now. Misery fills me as I let out a long, loud cry for help.
Help arrives. Two of my kind, much bigger in size than I, arrives. One, I spot quickly, is holding in her hand the drink of energy. A bottle of milk.
"Aww, Nathan got his head stuck in the crib again, James!" the female says. My name is Nathan. His name is James. How many other Nathans or James are there in the world? How can they tell the difference between us? This containment cell is a "crib" apparently. I know I have been through this but I cannot remember much from before.
"I got him, Janet." James says as he gently pushes my head out. Amazing! These two must have strength much greater than my own. James then grabs a hook on one side of the crib and pulls, causing one of the walls of bars to retreat. He then picks me up and takes the milk from the female and feeds me. It is delicious! The sweet taste fills my mouth's desires as I swallow it down. Not only does it quench my thirst but it defeats the hunger in me.
I happily feast on the milk as the two adults carry me out of the room, down the set of stairs, and into the living room. They set me gently on the couch and turn on this big screen in front of me. Moments later, a picture of a little brown cartoon girl and a talking monkey wearing boots appears. Her name seems to be "Door-uh" and the monkey wearing boots is "Boots". How odd. She begins walking along a road towards her parent's house. How old is she to not live with her parents? She looks young. Suddenly, a fox wearing a mask sneaks up behind them. It appears to be that he is a robber! Look behind you Dora! She must have heard me because both her and Boots turn to see that the fox, or "Swiper" as Dora calls him, was going to rob them of something. Dora turns to me. She turns to me and asks me to chant "Swiper no swiping!" hoping to scare the fox away. Without a moment of hesitation, I begin to try chanting the words. A gurgling noise escapes me but soon the fox stops in his tracks and leaves. I saved Dora! But before I could celebrate, a new challenger approaches.
This challenger, however, is not displayed on the screen. It is right in front of me. A big, furry, energetic animal climbs up the couch and walks towards me. I look for something to defend myself with but nothing nearby seems helpful. I have to test my strength against this being. As soon as he gets close enough to me, I erect my body up and grab at its snout. This throws the dog off and I begin my attack, trying to pull it down. Before I could defeat it, however, the James returns, grabs the beast, and escorts him to the large window in the wall to the right of the big screen. He grasps the handle of the window and opens it. The dog makes his way to the outdoor world and the man shuts the barrier between the inside and outside.
"It's time to get you washed up for your birthday!" he said as he picked me up. This was not a familiar term. Was I, Nathan, so important that I had a whole day to celebrate my birth? I don't even remember much about what happened that day! Did I vanquish a beast and save many people? Did I discover something that would influence many?
James brought me to a small room upstairs. At the end was a big, long bowl. It was full of water, another source of energy I had encountered before. By the "tub" as James called it was Janet. James slowly placed me in the water. Somehow I easily managed to float in this containment of warm and bubbly water. Suddenly, something appeared out of the corner of my eye. It was a bright yellow sight that made me look. I had seen this before on the screen form earlier. People call it a "duck". Ducks, apparently, liked to swim. This duck, however was not very anxious to play in the water. Maybe it needed some help. I grabbed it and started swimming around with it. Playing with this duck seemed to make me feel happy. After a long time of playing and washing, I was pulled out of the water by Janet. I waved goodbye to the duck and tried to say farewell but again a gurgling noise escaped my mouth. Was this how I spoke? It sounded different from what Janet and James sounded like. Maybe I would learn more later.
They brought me back to the room from this morning. Fortunately, the light from outside was not shining in. They dressed me in some bright yellow clothes, brought me downstairs into a dark room, pressed a button that caused a big doorway to rise, and opened the door to a big, shiny machine. They strapped me into a seat in the back next to the furry beast from earlier. Janet and James climbed into the front seats of the vehicle, did something that made the machine roar to life and we began moving backwards out of the big room and away from the house. I wonder where we were going. My answer came soon enough. After a short time of driving, we arrived at a big field. On one side was a large playground like the one at home. On the other side was a fenced area where a lot of animals like the one we had were running and playing with the people. I guess people and animals were meant to play with each other like the duck from the bath.
James parked the vehicle in a lot and I was carried out to the big playground where adventure awaited. There were a lot of parts to this mass of enjoyable sorts. Janet decided to take me to the slide at the top of the stairway. When I looked down, I could see the whole park! In the distance I spotted our own pet running around with its kind. Janet settled me at the top of the ominous slide. I wanted to go back but before I could say anything, she pushed me down. The wind hit my face as I sped down the seemingly endless slide. This was very frightening and yet kind of enjoyable. The ride ended as quickly as it had begun as I arrived at the end of the slide to be caught by James. How long had he been down here?
As much fun as the slide was, there was something I knew that I really wanted to do. Swing. The swing set was another adrenaline pumping activity that I was familiar with at home. The swings here, however, were much bigger. James strapped me into the seat that would keep me from falling off and began to push me. As my swing gained momentum, the gust of wind in my face and joy in my body grew stronger. When the swing got to its highest point of height, I noticed that Janet was leading our animal back to the car. I knew what would happen next. Slowly, the height and speed of the swing lessened, and eventually, we stopped. It was time to go home.
When we arrived to our big, beautiful, auburn-painted home, with its emerald green yards, and the big pool in the back with the gazebo at the end, I noticed there were multiple colorful streamers and a big banner that said "Happy Birthday". There was that term again. What did it mean? It was starting to get frustrated not knowing. James opened my door of the vehicle, picked me up, and brought me through the stone path that led to our huge backyard, where we were greeted by a crowd of cheerful people. James and Janet lead me through the crowd, where we were stopped by people saying "Happy Birthday, Nathan", and towards a pile of brightly colored containers shaped like squares. James set me down into a carriage of some sort and began ripping the outer skin of the packages revealing a variety of items, including toys, clothing, and more special machines. When we were finished, I was escorted to the gazebo by the pool.
Sitting there in the middle of a set up table was a big, yellow cake with thick, creamy icing. I could feel the drool gushing from my mouth as I stared at the delicious treat. Before we could feast upon this kind of desserts, however, everyone gathered around and began merrily chanting "Happy Birthday" over and over. Midway through the song, however, things began to go wrong. Dark, ominous clouds had begun to roll over the neighborhood. Moments later, a deafening bang erupted from the sky and drops of water began to drop from the sky. Everyone began to run towards the glass door of the house to get dry. As James ran to get the presents and Janet brought me inside, I saw that the cake was left behind, getting poured on by the rain. I was so close to getting some. My heart was now filled with infinite sadness.
No one expected the party to go bad but it did. After it did, no one expected it to go good again but it did. Everyone gathered in the living room to watch TV and try to forget the rain had happened. It was then when a commercial played on the big screen. It was an advertisement for hosting birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese's. I had been there before. It was a huge coliseum of fun. There were many shining lights, delicious food, and adventure as far as the eye could see. Janet noticed my anxiety at seeing the commercial and told everyone to move the party there.
When we arrived, James bought everyone pizza and cake while Janet bought some tokens for everyone. Some of the other people bought me these big, colorful balls that floated in the air and were tied by a long string which was tied around my arm on the other end. It was dark out when the party finally ended. On the way home, I fell asleep. I did wake up to being carried up the stairs of my familiar home and into the comfy crib where I fell back to sleep. The day was a good one, with both positive and negative surprises. My birthday. I hoped there would be more to come.
