Hurricanes we've all heard about about them,, or have been told the stories of the monsters ravaging whole communities. Hurricane season have officially started today June 1st. I am no stranger to hurricanes. I live right on the coast in Miami, Fl. I have witnessed the true power of hurricanes such as Katrina and Wilma. Many cities are long overdue for a landfalling hurricane such as Miami.
Noaa, CSU and other prediction centers are predicting another above average Hurricane season. Last year tied a record of the 1995 Hurricane season with 19 storms, 12 of those became Hurricanes, and 5 became Major Hurricanes. The U.S has been spared once again in the 2010 season with no major land falling hurricanes. This year may be different. The La Nina which is the cooling of the pacific waters, Which creates less wind shear across the Atlantic basin which tears apart Hurricanes. La Nina is rapidly weakening and is expected to dissipate at the end of June. Forcasters say neither the La Nina or El Nino will be present this season, resulting in Neutral Conditions. The last time we had Neutral conditions was Hurricane Season 2005 which was the most active season ever recorded with a total of 28 storms, 15 Hurricanes, 7 Major Hurricans and the first season to had used the greek alphabet.
Hurricane Katrina
It doesn't matter whether its a busy season or not. It only takes 1 hurricane to destroy your community. An example is Hurricane Andrew which was the only Major Hurricane in the 1992 season that struck Homestead, Fl as a Category 5 Hurricanes with winds up to 160mph and gusts up to 192mph. It destroyed that whole community and changed lives forever.
Damage from Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
So its best to be Hurricane ready if you live in vulnerable areas.
Good luck to those in Hurricane Prone areas...
Good old New York...I guess we ARE good on weather, even if we DO have to deal with snow & freezing cold >.< *scowls*
