In 2005, music fan Corey George from the village of Aberaman, south Whales, suffered severe head injuries when a 4x4 vehicle collided with him. At the time, Corey was on his way to a shop to spend some money that he had just recieved for his 9th birthday.
Young Corey was on his death bed in a coma, being kept alive by a life support machine for two straight weeks. The doctors taking care of him didn't think Corey would ever wake up; and if he did, he would never be the same mentally. While in the hospital, Corey's mother played him a CD by his favorite punk-rock band, Green Day.
Shortly after the album "American Idiot" (released 2004) started playing, Corey woke up from his coma and began to move his fingers and toes. Four days later, he was well enough to be removed from the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and began physical rehabilitation.
"He loves Green Day and is always playing their records. The title track we played for him is his favorite - he listens to it all the time." said Corey's father.
Green Day later reported that they are very pleased that their music helped aid in this young boy's sucessful recovery.
