Pokemon sometimes seems like a rather easy game. Sometimes it seems a bit too easy, right? You might be able to come up with some ways to make the game harder, but often, the rules you place are confusing and annoying. The same problem has plagued those who play this game for over a decade.
To make his finals-induced boredom more exciting, he decided to play Pokemon Ruby, following these rules.
1. Catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each route/cave/whatever and nothing else. If you fail to catch it, too bad, continue onwards.
2. If you Pokemon faints, consider it dead and release it. Of course, you can add extras, just don't take these two away.
I would try to explain the history of its popularity, but I feel that he explains it better.
For those unwilling to click the links, he grew attached to his monsters, made a comic to post on 4chan's /v/, and ended up driving a new phenomenon.
Of course, as word spread around, many people started taking this challenge, myself included. Trust me, once you begin playing Pokemon like this, it's hard to go back. It may be hard, so remember this:
@drew25: But... this makes you even closer to your monsters! I seriously cried when my Flaaffy that I had been using the entire game finally died... If anything, this will make you love them more, and appreciate even the lowliest Caterpie, especially when it's your last hope.
@Techno: Yes... but it had been written long ago. I figured it was time for another blog to appear.
@Destiny D.: I didn't include the last part of the phrase for two reasons: 1) The site rules. I know I forgot about NSFW-warning the link (though it really isn't that bad), but that phrase counts too. 2) Level-grinding should be avoided, as it makes the game far too easy. The only time you should grind, imo, is if you are clearly out-leveled as a result of a few losses. Oh, and the nickname thing? It's common, but not one of Nuzlocke's founding rules.
@Eletious: I know, right? It's just like how on SoulSilver you go through 2 pretty long routes, twice, before obtaining Pokeballs! You're almost guaranteed to waste your first encounter on those routes, so better hope Dark Cave gives you Geodude. Also. I don't think Nintendo fixes those any anymore, which is why I like the DS Pokemon games.
OH MY GOD! I had totally forgotten about the Nuzlocke challege! I think I might actually buy another Sapphire cartridge so I can complete the challeng and not have to restart my old Sapphire files! Oh, and the Poochyena battle is a waste.
Also, I have a question:
Does anyone know how to replace a dried battery in a Sapphire cartridge? I don't think that Nintendo's fixing them anymore.
The actual motto is 'Never give up. Never forget. Grind like hell.' I used to do this on my HG, but gave up after 10+ failed attempts over two months... (I made it to the E4 twice) Also, I believe it's also considered to be a rule that you have to give every Pokemon you catch a meaningful nickname, but I might be mistaken.
And BTW, since you're new here, the Nuzlocke site doesn't have appropriate language, so in the future, you might want to give a warning... This is a kids site, after all.
