Today one of my friends received a 24 hour ban. For speaking English in the Spanish room. I understand why they were banned, I had been banned for the same thing not too long ago. But back to what I was talking about. In reaction to this ban and numerous other bans the member went on a rant, created a blog saying they were going to quit, changed their signature and etc. They are extremely upset, which I understand, but is there a need to blow-up the way they did? No there is not.
Here is a solution to all who think the langauge room ban is illegitimate or stupid: Learn the langauge! Obviously you should not go into a room marked "Spanish" if you do not know Spanish, and learning a new langauge (or bits a pieces) may prove helpful later in life. But if you are too lazy to learn a couple words then I have something even better for the computer users: Google Translator! (Google owned) Just open a seperate tab, go to iGoogle, look up Google Translator and Presto! You know how to write and translate any langauge! But do not get mad when you get banned for using English in a Langauge themed room, in the end you will have to serve more time crying over spilled milk. I'm sure the admins do not want to ban members for this, I'm even more sure they do not want to hear whining about being banned.
Thank you, I understand and agree with your point, which is why being lazy and not learning a langauge and using a translator is not the best way to go
You're blog's well-written. Just note that Google translate isn't the same as speaking the language. Google translate may not put a sentence you want in the right order (like earlier stated) that a language specifies which will cause confusion to whomever is in the language chatroom.
@Beckie: Nearly impossible, because one would merely have to write down the words again, unless it randomly chooses a phrase, in which case, makes it even MORE pointless.
I have an idea. When someone clicks on the chat button, A pop-up will come with english words and you have to translate them i spanish. FAIL=can't go in
This translator actually translates every sing word. no matter how long the paragraph/page/story is: Babbel fish (i think it's called) it's made by yahoo
Wow... This Blog, I agree with. I'm in a generous mood today. XP +1
I've never been banned for anything related to the Language Rooms, mostly because I've given up trying to learn Spanish and French. I know my limits.
Neon, WHOA, where did you pull THAT concept from?! IMPROBABLE. Noobs are like cats, if they're not supposed to go somewhere, then that automatically means that they MUST get in there. However, they lack the sophistication of cats...
I was hoping this would be about actual spilled milk... try umm what was the site. Applied Language. They have a pretty good translator somewhere in there.
Google translator is just an example of an easy, common translator, if you know of any easier and more detailed translators just put them in a comment, I'm sure it would be helpful to other membors
