I will be doing a review on Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (or as I like to call it, LOZ WW). I will be basing this review on three categories; Game play, Controls, Graphics and Sound.
Let's start with Gameplay; this game has spectacular battle scenes. You will see Link jumping, back flipping and etc. like every 3rd person Zelda game should have. However, LOZ WW brings something new to the table. Action moves during battle; this allows you to counter any attack. One thing I disliked about LOZ WW was sea combat. It was really annoying to fight at sea because every time you took out your bow or boomerang, you stopped moving. Also, when you get the Wind Waker (this is actually an item in the game) you have to play it a lot of times and view very short but pointless cut scenes that are unable to skip. In conclusion, playing this game was great with all the abilities and items you could get.
Next up is Controls. The controls were very convenient and simple to understand which is a good thing because there are going to be many rooms where there are going to be 4 or more darknuts with 2 or 3 more enemies that can summon more enemies. And to preform the action moves that I talked about earlier are very simple to perform. When sailing it doesn't defy the laws of physics so when the wind is blowing one way you actually have to face that direction to move. In conclusion, like I said earlier this game has very nice controls, so be creative when fighting because you never know.
The category to do now is, GRAPHICS. Now what some of you, who are mega fans of Ocarina of Time are saying, are probably things like: "Link is the hero of time who goes through darkness and stuff. Not some colourful play land!" Well, that may be true but in this game Link looks pretty epic once you get..."A certain Item" in the game. Now I may sound corny when saying this but, it's doesn't really matter what Link looks like, it's what he does that matters. Also, who cares? Nintendo has a variety of Zelda games! They had to have at least one of them playable for younger kids.
Now for the final category which is Sound. I would give this a perfect score for sound except for the fact that there was no actual sound when people were talking. I don't think is a big issue I'm just saying it will prevent it from getting a perfect score. Other than that, the music they play is awesome. I would almost guarantee that anyone who has played this game and has gotten far in it, has at least 1 or 2 favourite songs.
Honestly, I love Wind Waker, it's a beautilful game, if you haven't gotten it yet and you're a Legend of Zelda mega fan like me, then get it, you will enjoy it.
Meh. Mediocre review. I'd just like to point out a couple of things though.
"Colorful play land?" "Zelda game for kids?" Oh, no no. The game is done in a different style. More colorful and cartoon-like. But it's not "for kids" at all. I actually like the Wind Waker style. It's beautiful in a different sense.
"Short but pointless cutscenes?" You mean when the wind blows? Not really a cutscene. It doesn't take up more than a second, so I don't know what you're complaining about.
"No sound when the characters talk?" I don't get what you're trying to say there. Really, Wind Waker deserves a perfect 10 when it comes to the sound. Everything from the music to the simple sounds of the ocean itself is all done beautifully.
