Okay, many of you have probably seen images with transparent backgrounds on sites, well now you know how to create one! Just follow these steps
1.Download GIMP2
Go on a computer and download it here http://getgimp.com/ (its free)
2.Find an image
3.Open Up Gimp and get started!
Okay, now that you have gimp open the image with gimp. Once gimp is opened the first thing you want to do is click on layer, go to transparency, and click on add alpha channel. Now once its added you will want to erase or cut all of the white or whatever you don't want in the picture. Note:If you have to erase zoom in as much as you can. Now save your image as a .png, when the exporting gimp window pops up, uncheck save background color. When you view the image it seems to just be white but when its uploaded somewhere (Like a wiki) you can see the page background.
You have to MANUALLY add the alpha channel? Pfft, Gimp...
No, you don't.
When you create a new document, delete the "Background" layer, and create a new layer called "Background" (for easy identification), and on the "Fill with" bit, choose "Transparency".
Then create new layers on top of it.
Or if you created a button or a logo, go to the layers-window-thing and delete the Background layer, then go to the layers tab and select merge layers down, then do what Davy said, "Now save your..."
