So. You may know this secretive nation to be one of the following: a) crazy b) scary c) mysterious. But is it really that big of an issue? You may think these people are frightening and weird, but are we just misunderstanding? In this blog, I'll take you into the brief and amazing history of North Korea.
The History
Korea was under Japan's direct rule until the end of WWII, when Japan was forced to surrender the territory. The Allied Powers then divided the nation on the 39th Parallel, with the USSR controlling the Northern half, and the USA occupying the southern portion. Please note that this division was supposed to be temporary.
As tension between the split peninsula increased, which was caused by influence on the two terriories and the newly formed governments (North Korea's government was officially formed in 1948, with Kim Il Sung as it's leader.), conflicts between the young countries were often.
In 1950, North Korea launched a surprize invasion on South Korea. This officially marked the beginning of the Korean War.
The war finally ended with the signing of an armistice in 1953, yet, there was no peace treaty signed.

-North Korea is officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), so technically, North Korea is a Republic, despite the communist rule of the nation.

-There is no internet in North Korea

-Cell Phones are banned.

-The capital is Pyongyang.

-The DPRK's allies include Russia and China.

-It is possible to visit N. Korea, but if you are Isreali, Americans, British, or Japanese, you may have trouble getting in. In 2010, however, the restrictions on American tourists were lifted.

-Even if you were allowed entry, you would have to be escorted by a North Korean tour guide at all times.

-North Korea's borders are the most heavily guarded in the world. If you are caught crossing illegally, you could be punished with death or forced labor (which you aren't likely to be released from).

-South Koreans are strictly forbidden from entering North Korea.

-Kim Jong Il (1994-2011) once claimed he invented hamburgers. Since North Koreans don't have any connections to the world, most belived him.

-Kim Il Sung, who died in 1994, is still known as the eternal leader.

-North Koreans are raised to love and admire the current leader. Until his death in 2011, Kim Jong Il could be considered the North Korean Jesus.

-All households have a government-monitored radio that cannot be powered off, only able to turn down the volume.

-Most citizens are unaware that a man has actually walked on the moon.

-North Koreans despise Americans. So much that there are nursery rhymes about killing and torturing them.
