Time Travel: Is it possible?

Lets start with the obvious; Doctor Who. The Doctor can just jump into a blue box, and warp away.

And warp back, before or after he left. Seems easy enough for him, but in the real world things aren't quite so simple.

Albert Einstein showed that time runs at different speeds in different places, and that it is just another dimension like length, width and depth(suggesting it can 'flow' in either direction). This has also led to the suggestion that at some point it may be possible to travel through time to the past or future.

During the 1930s, American mathematician Kurt Gödel suggested that time travel might be possible by bending space-time. Scientists have since suggested all kinds of ideas for technology that could bend space time, including gravity machines (Einstien's general theory of relativity showed that gravity bends space-time, leading scientists to predict the existence of black holes).
Some scientists believe that black holes may be linked by wormholes (tunnels through space-time) to reverse black holes called white holes, where matter is ejected.

However, physicist Steven Hawking believes black holes cannot be used for time travel because everything that goes in shrinks to a singularity (An unimaginably small point).

Einstein also stated that it is impossible for anyone to move through time, because it would invole moving faster than light. Even if you reached that speed, time would stop and they would not be alive.

Another favourite anti-time travel example is the classic 'Boy kills grandfather, meaning boy couldn't have been born, meaning he couldn't have killed his grandfather'.

So simply if you were in a spaceship that accelerated near the speed of light, it would appear to shrink and its clocks would run more slowly as time stretched.

So what do you think? Is it possible? Or not? Should we do it, or will ruin humanity with a paradox?

Imagine a row of dancers. They don't know how to move from row to row. All of them are moving forwards at a constant rate. If one dancer discovers how to move to another row, she would find that she could not reach the one in front of her. As she hurries ahead, she multiplies and leaves her original self behind and brings a whole new row into the performance. There are an undifined number of realities, just like there are of hieghts, lengths, ect. Time travel is possible, safe, but out of our league.

In the quantum phobe, smaller than atoms in matter, there are wormholes. But in the quantum phobe of time, along with greater technology, we can enlarge it thousands of times. Big enough to send man, or a spaceship through.

Reaching the speed of light might be impossible but getting close to it isn't. We will eventually get close enough.

I used to travel time, but then I took an arrow to the knee. :3

I very much so enjoyed reading this. However, you must remember what time is. Although it is thoredicaly possible to alter the temporal timeframe of an object by approaching the speed of light, you must remember that time is nothing more than a function of matter. All matter travles forward through time. Not that time is moving, but the objects are ageing together producing what we know as time. Going bacwards in time would involve revercing the aging process of every object in existance. At least, that's my theory.

Forward time travel at variable rates is very possible, just beyond our current technology. Jet planes can fly with an atomic clock that was synced to a ground reference clock and come back with a fraction of a millisecond discrepancy. Faster traveling craft, like spaceships, can get an even larger discrepancy. As craft are able to get faster and faster (approaching lightspeed), forward time travel will become more of a reality.

Now, how about backward time travel? Meh. Our current understanding of physics forbids it. Maybe we will one day have knowledge of more time dimensions or a reversible time continuum.

The massive gravity of a black hole would slow time down. By closely exceeding the cosmic speed limit, 100,000 times faster than the Apollo 11, a week for you is a year for the rest of Earth. The more speed, the slower time goes to not break the laws of physics.

There are certain cases when travelling back/forward in time in logical, and can be done, such as if you leave for Japan on a Monday, it might be a different day (not sure if it'd be the day before or the day after, I'm not familiar with the time zones) when you get there, even if twenty four hours has not passed.

There's also things like cryogenic freezing, which is partially like time travel, but not exactly. It feels like time travel to you, but to everyone else, time has moved along normally.

To think that we as humans can produce the knowledge to create a box that propells you forward/backward in time is illogical and most likely will not be done.

Of course, anythings possible, no?

It's not possible to travel back in time, but it's possible to travel forward in time.
Actually, you do that all the time. The faster you move, the faster you move, the faster time passes for you.
The more you move away from our beloved planet, the faster time passes.
Also, it's not possible to reach the speed of light, explained in the general theory of relativity.

To get to the speed of light, you'd need more energy then you can get, and more light then ther is in the universe. It's also theorised that if you keep going forward to the universal retraction, you'd travel back in time.

For example, forward time travel is well known as being possible. You simply need to get as close to light speed as you can for a good distance and then return the way you came and you will have been transported a substantial time into the future, while you only felt a small amount of time passing.

Two things ruin the concept, both of which are already stated below me. (as in below comments)
1. Someone would have come back in time and problably told us about it.
2. People could go back and REALLY screw up history.

Litteral time travel between long periods of time is impossible or else we wouldve known about it by now. Think about it. If someone came here from the future they probably would've told us by now

Sorry to say, but you`re wrong. That is merely man`s measurement of time being manipulated. There are too many paradoxes for time travel. One such example is to meet yourself in another time.

Suppose you head to the past to meet your younger self. Would you be the younger self, or the older one? Would you take on both roles?

The same event will occur for future traveling. Would one know already?

Yeah It is through worm holes, they exist but not for long. Like 0.00000000000001 second. What we need is a device and can stableise the wormhole for us to travel on.

I actually don't have space to put anymorein the blog, but my sources actually aren't the internet. This information came from my own science written notes book, which came from 4 different books, the main one being on 'The Frontiers of Science'.
I actually wrote another blog yesterday on time, but it didn't get featured. :/
