A warm, solid mass slammed violently into me, just as the thick branch from the tree above me fell to the ground with a loud CRACK!
The force of the shove sent both me and Anubis sprawling into the dirt. We rolled across the rotting forest floor, him cursing me muttering 'You suck' as we tumbled. We finally rolled to a stop, after crashing into the thick trunk of a redwood tree.
And because I just can't win, Anubis was on top of me. He placed a hand on either side of my head, holding himself overhead of me.
"Do you plan to make a habit out of standing under collapsing branches?" he asked, a dark eyebrow cocking upward.
"Shut up." I growled "I would've been fine. Now, get off me." Anubis snorted, indignantly.
"Fallyn, that branch would've flattened you into a pixie dust filled pancake." he smirked, flipping his dark bangs out of his eyes.
"I told you, I'm not full of pixie dust!" I growled "Get off!"
"Right, I forgot." Anibis muttered, rising to his feet, then offering me a hand. I ignored it. "You're full of bitterness."
"And you're full of-"
"Fallyn Knight." an upsettingly familiar confident voice drawled "I see you've found a friend." I sighed, irritably.
"Back already?" I asked, whipping around to face the same Blonde who'd attacked me not two minutes ago. "Normally when the bad guys flee, the hide. Or at least tattle to their mommies first." Blondie smirked.
"I'm not a bad guy, Fallyn." she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Let me guess," I sneered, as Anubis sidled up beside me "Messenger?"
"Nah," she replied "Messengers get shot. I'm just a hired gun."
"Hired guns don't impress me." Anubis retorted "Mothing but people to spineless to fight for their own cause, so they get paid to fight for others."
Blondie's smirk widened.
"I was wondering in Fallyn's boyfriend had a voice." she said.
"He's not my boyfriend!" I snapped
"I'd have to." he replied "She can't seem to stop using hers." I scowled, about to whirl on him and say some nasty things.
But that's when Blondie hurled the knife.
I ducked, yanking Anubis down with me. The next knife struck an inch from my foot. I shoved Anibis aside, as I rolled to the other, dodging another knife.
"You've got really bad aim." I informed her, trying to ignore the nagging voice in the back of my head whispering 'Important to the plot, important to the plot'. I charged, tackling her full on, ignoring the knife peircing into my shoulder.
"Who are you?" I demanded, struggling to keep the upper hand. "Who hired you?"
"You know the answers, Fallyn." she replied, reaching for another knife. "Just find them."
Something hard and cold cut into my chest, and everything went black.
