Classical Music - Dead or Alive?

Today, in My Advanced Placement Music Theory class, we were introduced to a question that the whole class really got into. And honestly, I kind of want to see what other people think on a larger scale. So here is the question: Is Classical music (the genre) dead or alive?

Now, that is a hard question to answer, seeing as it's not too specific. As far as things go, I'm wanting you guys to see Classical Music as a whole throughout the whole world. And I want you guys to tell me what you think. This will not only help me, but honestly, synthetic thinking is good for a frowning brain! So please, answer the question. And feel free to tell me your reasons why you think it is or isn't. (And please, be respectful of other's thoughts on this) Thanks!

I'm not sure what defines Classical, but do enjoy some old 60's-80's tunes, as well as some old century symphonies on occasion.

I prefer music made in the years 1968-1988. Most music made now is tasteless, apart from the odd Santana or Jazz album.

I completely agree. Classical music can be thought of in so many ways. Whereas, music today, gives you the exact message their music is supposed to send. Goes to show how lazy we as people have become.

Stuff used to be far more original and creative. Classical is definitely far more interesting to listen to than most of modern music.

I think it is very much alive and well. Not only do many people still like it, but it had a huge influence on many different soundtracks.

As a pianist, I live classical. Are you referring to that specific time period, or are you wrapping up the romantic period, post-modern and modern periods, etc. inside that title?

I used to love Classical. Beethoven was my favourite. I could play moonlight sonata and the pathetique sonata on piano.

The genre is alive, but it has whithered severely.
