Webster’s dictionary defines an ignoramus as someone who lacks knowledge or is unaware of a situation. It’s also commonly used to describe most American citizens who are narcissistic. Being ignorant does not suggest that you are not intelligent or knowledgeable but it does describe your personality and characteristics. Someone who acts on an idea without knowledge of the whole situation or who does things just to be spiteful is ignorant. Most of society is blind to the fact that everyone is equal and that no one is better than any other person. When people believe that they are more superior to others, they tend to do ignorant things which ultimately lead to turbulent altercations.
I personally experienced the wrath of a few narcissists when I was 9 years old. I was given a position of authority as School President and was looked down upon by my upper classmen. This frightened most people and when people are scared or upset they act ignorantly. I was tormented and called despicable names which negatively affected me. Being both narcissistic and ignorant is the worst combinations of characteristics that any person can inhabit. They are able to insult others and give out criticism but are not able to accept and own up to their mistakes.  

Sometimes it’s hard for me to absorb the fact that there are people in the world that act so cruel towards others. Humans in general are naturally egocentric and inconsiderate. Many people tend to substitute power with greed and not only does it cause problems but it affects the people surrounding them. For example, The US government has a great deal of power and that power supposedly comes from “The People”.  Recently the government has been passing legislations that most American Citizens oppose (NDAA, and SOPA). NDAA gives the military the right to detain any person who is “suspected” of terrorism. Jason Baker quotes, “When signing the NDAA into law, Obama issued a signing statement that in essence said, ‘I have the power to detain Americans... but I won’t.’”
 
In America, if a person is “rich” or famous that person instantaneously has power. Once a person has power they are almost free to do whatever they want. Whether it be congressmen not paying taxes but prosecuting struggling families who must use every penny that they can find to cover the cost of keeping their family grounded; or incarcerating a single parent who lied about her place of residency to allow her children a better education. There are different cases where people of power are put on trial and knowingly commit perjury but are never prosecuted and their crimes “swept under the rug”. There are millions of problems in the world but the people who inhabit this planet are blind to things that surround them. At the end of the day we make up the world. Will you be an ignorant citizen and ignore all the abuse surrounding you? It’s your choice.
