Yes. Tragic, I know. The Grim Reaper took eight kids from my school today., never to speak to us again... At least for the rest of the day!
Two kids dressed as the Grim Reaper went around school today "killing" one student council member before every class period. Between class periods, the people in the office would play the creepiest music I've ever heard over the speakers. The kids behind the masks were named Andres and Jordan. I only know the names of four of their victims: Sunny, Lucero, Roberto, and Blanca. Each of the victims had to wear a trash bag over their clothes with a sign taped on it. The sign had their date of birth and "death". Basically, it looked like this:
Blanca Alvarez
Date of birth: April 13, 1994
Date of death: April 13, 2012
I died drinking and driving.
That was what one of the signs actually said. Each victim couldn't speak to ANYONE except for the reapers and principals for the rest of the day.
By looking at the sign, you could probably figure out what this was for. It was an anti-drinking/texting and driving campaign. Lucero's sign said "I died texting and driving." Sunny's sign said "I got hit by a drunk driver."
There were two reason's they picked today that I'm aware of, maybe three.
1. Friday the 13th
2. Day before prom (unfortunately, I will not be going.)
3. (MAYBE!) Blood drive day.
The students who weren't on the student council got to have some fun with the reapers, to. Take me for example: I went up to one of them (don't know which one it was) and went "Hahaha! I laugh in the face of death!" They just picked up their (fake) scythe and ran the blade across the base of their neck to say "You're dead!" You can bet I got out of there as fast as I could since I wanted to be able to talk to my boyfriend later.
Anyway, I thought this was a very fun and unique way to raise awareness and convince people not to text and drive or drink and drive.
JUST REMEMBER THIS!!! ONLY TEXT AND DRIVE IF YOU WANT TO MEET GOD!!!! OR Andres... and Jordan... Or the REAL GRIM REAPER!!!! BWAHAHAHAHA! (Yes, I realize I'm getting a little carried away.)
